Dundee United v Celtic

12:30pm kick off on subscription television.

Matthews and Johansen are back in the squad after being unavailable during the week. Lustig and Mulgrew still out with long-term injuries.

Not sure I’ll be liveblogging from the start but I will be watching.

I’ll be tuning in from 12.29pm and will be live blogging. Lose today and the title race is blown wide open again.

Hopefully Stokes starts, I think we have much more creativity in the side when he plays.

Wouldn’t mind him playing on the left instead of Armstrong. But not as a striker. Griffiths, Stokes and Guidetti all struggle for consistency but he’s definitely behind the others in terms of pure goalscoring.

Agreed, he’s not suited to playing as a lone striker and should be behind Griifths and Guidetti for that position. I think he brings more to the team than Armstrong does on the left, maybe Armstrong might be suited to the game where we won’t have as much possession but Stokes has far more craft to unlock defences and create chances.

Aberdeen have been a credit the way they are seeing the season out, notwithstanding the fact that it was all effectively done and dusted at Celtic Park on the first day of March. That’s their only defeat in 21 league games and after the wobble of draws against Dundee and Partick Thistle, they’ve won their last 4 league games on the trot.

CELTIC (4-2-3-1) Gordon; Matthews, Denayer, van Dijk, Izaguirre; Brown, Bitton; Commons, Johansen, Armstrong; Griffiths

Subs: Zaluska, Ambrose, Guidetti, Scepovic, Mackay-Steven, Forrest, Tierney

Is Stokes injured, bhoys?

Thought GMS was excellent again the other night so surprised to see him left out.

Jason Denayer has had a really good season.

Johansen very nearly on the end of that Izaguirre cross shot.

Dundee United are playing well here. Lively start from them. Quick to the ball, pressing hard and forced a few corners. Good save by Gordon there to tip over a rasping Muirhead drive.

Better spell for Celtic. Great play by Armstrong on the left and Van Dijk looked set to score from his cut back but a defender’s block took the sting out of it.

Dundee United back on the front foot though. Denayer with an important block and another shot on target from Muirhead.

Brown has just absolutely milled John Rankine.

Man, ball and all.

Yellow card for the captain.

0-0. '31.

Good break by Celtic. A couple of blocked shots and a corner now.

Not specifically related to today but I’m beginning to come to the view that Izzy is a bit of a weakness. He does play a nice 1-2 and makes room for himself well in their half but his crossing is erratic and defensively he’s often caught out of position. I think we could do better.

Lovely football there, would have been a terrific goal if Commons caught it properly.

He’s messed up a couple of good openings today having arrived late into the box in space and being found with diagonals by Commons. His strength is obviously going forward and I thought he came onto a decent spell of form in the middle part of the season after a difficult start but his form’s tailed off again a bit. We could definitely do with having competition for him anyway, whether that’s a signing or if young Tierney can progress.

Fucking joke of a decision against Bitton.

Half Time: 0-0.

Izzy looks much better when Stokes plays.

Absolutely fantastic goal.

Armstrong, Johansen (twice) and Brown involved and a lovely finish across the keeper by Griffiths from Johansen’s set up.

1-0 to Celtic.
