You’ve got a problem for every solution. You argued against this last season too. You can’t speak objectively on any criticism of the way the club is ran and perform mental gymnastics to defend every mistake they made.
Just like you were proven wrong on both Lennon and Lawwell, you are wrong here too.
@Rocko will be out to defend that here shortly though, he has lost any credibility when it comes to speaking objectively about Celtic.
We have £20m in the bank and a billionaire owner. The fact that Edouard is paid 58% of what Morelos currently is on, the fact that Morelos has signed two new contracts in the past 2 years while Edouard has been allowed to run into his final 12 months tells you a lot of the strategy of both clubs.
Celtic have the resources and capability of tying the likes of Edouard, Ajer and Christie down on long term deals but they don’t have the drive and ambition - the club is being ran to bankroll and grow the wealth of its shareholders and it’s being done by running down the club on the playing side.
We pointed at laughed how Rangers were going to bankrupt themselves to stop 10IAR. Not only has that not happened, they have sought extra finance and are now probably an awful lot closer to closing the gap financially with Celtic than at any other time since they came up.
Since they have came up they have rejected overtures for their key players like Morelos, Barasic, Tavernier, Kent etc. If they were Celtic players they would have been shipped off for the offers that came in.
Anyone who tries to argue that Celtic are a well run club is an absolute pillock.
I’m all for criticising lots of decisions. I think our strategy, or lack of strategy, in the transfer market has been dreadful and completely shown up.
But the solutions need to be realistic. I don’t see any incentive for Edouard to sign a new contract when it just restricts or delays his inevitable pay day. Celtic have been trying to get him to sign a new deal. Understandably he’s not willing to do so.
Same applies to Ajer. He’s not stupid. There’s very little reason for him to sign anything.
Edouard is such a good striker (in Scotland, which does actually generally translate), that he scored plenty without trying a leg for most of the season. He may need to look slightly less begrudging next season if he wants an 8 figure signing fee
Edouard was offered a contract.
Ajer signed a contract extension 2 and a half years ago. He was offerred a new contract a year ago. He doesn’t want to sign it. He’d be very foolish to sign a new deal now.
I’m not writing them off forever. If they don’t get the expected interest maybe we can convince one of them to stay on inflated wages but if you think Celtic have forgotten or neglected to offer their most valuable assets new contracts then I’m afraid you’re not really approaching this sensibly.
Offered a contract? What were they offered? I doubt it was anything near what they are worth. You seem to call it inflated wages which shows your delusion here. The only person on inflated wages at Celtic is your beloved Peter Lawwell.
You’re a good man to talk about sensibility when you’ve buried your head in the sand for over 12 months.
I don’t know. Both were widely reported in the media at the time.
You do your arguments no favours when you just make contrarian points based on fiction. You wanted to sell Ajer last summer. You said he was overrated. Now you’re giving out he wasn’t given a raise even though you thought he was overrated and even though he was offered one.
I’d have sold him last season for £20m. Now we will barely get half of that as he’s been allowed run his contract down.
You seem to be delighted with the current culture st Celtic where no money is invested in the playing squad by the board and ownership and where the CEO is the highest paid employee at the club. Why is that?
You said he was overrated. He was offered a new contract. He decided not to sign. He wants to run it down. This was extensively reported. He wanted to leave. The £20m bid didn’t arrive. We can’t just sell a player for £20m if nobody will pay that.
Is it within your realms to speak in anyway objectively on this and not mount an utterly nonsensical defence of the mistakes made by the board? Could you for once actually speak honestly and not mount these pathetic defences?
