Dunnes Stores

TV3 reporting that it is going to be sold to UK supermarket giant Asda.

An announcement is expected to be made tomorrow.

Not good, would always choose Dunnes over Tesco anytime I am in a position to make the choice.

A new Dunnes just opened in the Wood of Cre last thursday. Fantastic building, totally different to Dunnes usual sheds.

It probably have no detrimental affect on you as a consumer, it would probably give Dunnes more buying power. The brand is too strong to have the stores rebranded as Asda as well, so you probably won’t actually notice anything.

When I think of Asda I think of shit holes like Birkenhead in England.

As opposed to Dunnes making us think of shitholes like Tullamore in Ireland

I think more of Tallaght when I think of Dunnes, Jugs. There is no grimness in Ireland to match the grimness of English shit holes like Birkenhead, Warrington, Huddersfield, Dagenham, Grimsby etc.

On a point of note jughead Tullamore is a fine town. And I’m from Caark

Dunnes is a great buy, access to massive massive cashflows overnight. Dunnes and there ilk dont need no bank funding, in fact they could be a bank themselves.

If I were running Dunnes Id be using my spare cash to hoover up shedloads of cut price real estate from desparate Banks.

Wait til you see the special offers the likes of Dunnes/Tesco/Lidl will have in the next 12 months. Not sure how commonly known it is but these massive supermarket chains would be the first port of call for any liquidators of big factories/warehouses etc.

Where better to sell a job lot of knock down plasmas, wetsuits, drumkits etc

Being from Cork I suspect many place appear fine

Ever see the small-ish Dunnes supermarket just off Dun Laoghaire main-street? It’s like it’s still 1987 in there, it’s marvellous.

Redacted.
