How much did your peloton cost, are there membership fees?

Bike is about €1,500 and Bike+ is about €2,700. Membership is €40 a month.

There’s also an app membership which gives you all the classes on your tablet or phone for €13 a month.

The main difference between the two bikes is that the Bike+ has autofollow resistance so when instructor says go to 50 the bike goes there automatically and a swivel screen which is handy for the non-bike workouts.

For 99% of people the app with a cheaper spin bike is perfect but I like collecting the data and measuring how hard I work.

It’s cultish, marketing spin and a waste of money but heading off to the gym and leaving the roaring kids with the wife just isn’t an option so I will take it.

There’s also an active second hand market here so when I’m over this fad in January I will probably get more than my money back on it.

OMFG.

I thought you were going to say about €800 and I was going to laugh at you.

That’s a great purchase, wealth of wear.

Similar price to like of Nordic Track. Any spin bike that doesn’t rattle and shake when you’re sprinting would cost north of €500 anyway.

Peloton is absolutely great. We pay £13 a month and use a wattbike atom partky because it is a better bike (electromagnetic rather than physical drive chain resistance) but mainly because herself thought it looked nicer than a peloton bike.
With a peloton bike, you buy the bike, but then need to pay £50 a month. The thing this allows you to do is go on a class leaderboard, which is completely irrelevant for anyone with a life, and it means that when the instructor tells you to change gear to say 5, you know exactly what to do, whereas with other systems (the wattbike has 20 gears) you have to guesstimate, but it’s pretty accurate.
You can do the app classes on anything at all, a £50 Olivia newton John era bike would be fine.
For the same monthly fee though, you get loads of classes, weights, hiit, stretching, yoga, running etc.
It’s absolutely brilliant.
There are live classes, but I’ve never done one, just do the recorded one.
You select type of class, length, difficulty, instructor etc and then take your pick.
Tunde is the best and worst instructor cc @briantinnion
You’re at nothing til you’ve done Tunde.
There’s also a middle aged slightly plumpish American cycling lady instructor who is smiling death.
It is unbelievably good value. It’s brilliant.

You’d pick a decent second hand one for less.

Yeah you would pick one up for under €1000 - certainly on the mainland. The classes are superb.

Some lads are gone clane fucking mad.

I’ve decided to put in an extra half an hour in the bed every morning this week and I feel great for it.

And a fat yank at that.

If you have to be told, you’re in the wrong game.

This is the Early Risers thread. Next you’ll be posting about Blues on the Jazz thread.

I wouldn’t rush in with a celebrity spot until the New Year if I were you. I’m always careful to keep on the right side of the grumpy bastard in case I’d spot Peter Darragh Quinn anywhere in the jurisdiction.
