In a post late last night, Xās safety team said it had imposed restrictions on āediting of images of real people in revealing clothing such as bikinisā.
āThis adds an extra layer of protection by helping to ensure that individuals who attempt to abuse the Grok account to violate the law or our policies can be held accountable,ā the platform said.
It added: āWe now geoblock the ability of all users to generate images of real people in bikinis, underwear, and similar attire via the Grok account and in Grok in X in those jurisdictions where itās illegal.ā
The restriction will apply to all users in those jurisdictions, including paid subscribers, while image editing and creation will be limited to premium users.
However, questions have been raised about how effective the measure will be, given that internet users can use a VPN to change their IP address to one from another country.

Grok AI generated about 3m sexualised images in less than two weeks, including 23,000 that appear to depict children, according to researchers who said it ābecame an industrial-scale machine for the production of sexual abuse materialā.
The estimate has been made by the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) after Elon Muskās AI image generation tool sparked international outrage when it allowed users to upload photographs of strangers and celebrities, digitally strip them to their underwear or into bikinis, put them in provocative poses and post the images on X.
