Embarrassing Irish Sporting Capitulations

To be fair thatā€™s not true. We lasted until the 50th minute. We equalized about twenty minutes in and the place went bananas for about 40 minutes afterwards. Top bantz.

I donā€™t think any Irish soccer fan would declare that tournament as anything other than an abject failure, and we had the two finalists in our group. Afterwards the Irish soccer public turned on traps overly predictable and negative style of football.

In contrast the Irish rugby team are pretty much guaranteed qualification for the quarters. The group is made up of not so much also rans, as never rans yet they are still making a fuck of it and coach schmidt is beyond criticism

Where trap was annihilated, Rubby managers get a free pass for consistently failing.

They dont get paid lad. Thst Irish teams capitulation has cost millions and 4 years of preparation

4 years of preparation for that. And they get a free pass.

Shameful

Keep the faith kid. Weā€™re only half way through the pool stages. Coach Schmidt is rightly attracting criticism for yesterdayā€™s loss but he is the most successful ever Ireland international coach and the most successful coach of an Irish provincial side.

The only question around whether or not the defeat counts as the most embarrassing in Irish history is the fact that it isnā€™t an Irish team

They donā€™t play the anthem and they donā€™t fly the tricolour. They are basically an amalgamation of countries.

Similar to how the provinces are an amalgamation of clubs, due to limited participation numbers they have to combine countries and have project players in order to compete

Ireland were rightly slated and derided by fans and media after Euro 2012. Correctly so, even if 2 of the finalists were in our group. Croatia were also an excellent side.

There are Japanese people who donā€™t even know they have a National Rugby team. 50% of their RWC Squad arenā€™t Japanese ffs.

Apples and Oranges (excuse the pun)

Itā€™s a team that represents the 32 counties of Ireland. The same as it is in cricket, hockey, golf, Gaelic Football/Australian Rules and just about every other sport. Itā€™s really only the soccer thatā€™s organised along partitionist, sectarian lines.

So the soccer is the only sport that recognises Northern Ireland as a sovereign state.

Whereā€™s this free pass the rugby lads are getting? The performance, the team and the management decisions have been dissected in the media since the match, and with barely contained glee from a lot of quarters, it must be said.

The rubby set have circled the wagons, the ref, the conditions and the 6 day turnaround have been used as excuses.

Schmidt hasnā€™t gotten any criticism. This is a guy who announced 2 years ago that heā€™ll be leaving after the World Cup.

Correct

Ok ok ok.

I apologise unreservedly for any hurt I may have caused, or dredged up, by posting other legendary sporting capitulations.

I did not realise that this was just another thread to sneer at a horrific Irish rubby capitulation. I read the thread title too literally.

I apologise if I have triggered some posters. It was not my intent

Your intent was to deflect away from another disastrous capitulation by the IRFU rugby team.

If only the IRFU rugby team were as good at deflecting Japanese lads we wouldnā€™t be having this ruck

I didnt start the thread pal. Look at the title. What was a feller to think?

The 18 lads, and counting, who liked this post need to apologise as well I think

Iā€™m gonna have to step away from my printer here for a few hours.
