ENGLAND Supporters Thread - Euro 2016

Interesting observation made on this weeks Football Weekly (WOOF), about Englands ‘Golden Generation’ and the pitiful endings to their careers.

Rio - Relegated
Gerrard - Slipped and lost 5-1
Owen - Died out at Stoke
Terry - Sent off, no farewell
Neville - Retired after humiliation
Scholes - Limped out of retirement to save United before toddling off again
Lampard - On loan to City, embarrassed to score against Chelsea
Cole - Died on the bench, horrific spell at Roma

Anyone else?

All apart from Beckham who bestrode the globe like a colossus

That’s shite talk in fairness. All them lads played well into their 30’s and had successful careers, obviously the end of your career is going to see you slow down/ move down clubs bar in exceptional circumstances. Cole was just a thick cunt.

Yes, but they were focusing on the send off’s gotten, and pretty much none got a rousing one anywhere, Owens in particular, for one of Englands greatest strikers and a former European POTY was especially pathetic.

For one club men, Terry and Gerrard’s aren’t exactly Totti’esque.

Didn’t know Cashley and Owen had died. RIP.

Some rather selective observations there all the same.

Steven Gerrard scored from play in three of his final four league games for Liverpool and was our top scorer for the season. I’m sure Scholes wasn’t too unhappy with his manner of departure either.

Lamps was arguably Manchester City’s best player in his final season in England.

Players generally end their career on a low note.

It came as a shock to us all.

id have Defoe in there
he’s a brilliant, instinctive striker in superb form at the moment and consistently playing well since janaury, Sturridge is a windy, flaky fucker who has no gumption about him at all… that’s a bad call.
Its a decent squad bar that miss

While Defoe has shown he can play up front on his own even at this stage of his career, Roy must be tempted to bring Big Andy along. The classic English big man/little man combination, the foreigners won’t know whats hit them.

Ronaldo - ate his way into decline
Ronaldinho - shagged his way into decline
Zidane - headbutted his way into retirement
Maldini - booed by his own supporters at his last game
Pirlo - stinking out the MLS
Matthaus - became a laughing stock at Euro 2000, his efforts to play sweeper were like your father taking to the dancefloor at a wedding
Diego - ended up taking a gun to journalists
Henry - handled his way to a World Cup where he made a show of himself

Not sure you’re following Sid, as stated they were talking about their final club games (choosing to discount retirement homes like the MLS). But carry on, its an interesting tangent to the main point.

That wasn’t Gerrards final club game or Lampards or Coles or Scholes.

Tell me about the final club games of those I listed…

Steven Gerrard scored in the final three minutes of his Liverpool career.

Discounting the retirement home of the MLS

Wasn’t Gerrards a 5-1 defeat? Or am I wrong?

Lampards was at City and not quite a Chelsea’esque send off.

And I don’t know why I’m even arguing this. I agree with you both.

Starting XI for the Turkey game today: Hart: Walker, Rose, Stones, Cahill, Dier, Wilshere, Sterling, Alli, Kane, Vardy

Five Spurs players no less Geoff, must be a very proud day for you.

We’ve provided more England internationals than any other club. Tottenham Hotspur are England.
