EPL 2009/2010 official thread

You might want to change your bait.

Disappointing season in general. Chelsea won standing still really. Drogba bounced back from a couple of poor seasons and that was crucial. Anelka wasnt as prominent as a result. Lampard, Malouda, Alex, Ivanovic all had good seasons but not many more.

Rooney showed his class this season for United but they missed Ronaldo hugely. Nani and Valencia came good though. Still the best defence despite long term injuries to O’Shea and Ferdinand but a huge problem in the centre of the park now and they need a number 10 to play behind Rooney.

Of the others, Arsenal had injury problems to key players but some of their supporting cast are nowhere near good enough either. Still something missing with them. Too many similar players. To be fair to Redknapp he has done a superb job at Spurs. Ironic that many of the players he didnt particularly rate came good for him when it counted. They will be a threat next season as they will spend. I see Everton as being a serious top 4 contender next season actually. Just need to bring in a couple of players. Felliani has the potential to be the best defensive midfielder in Europe. City didnt make the top 4 this season but its pretty sure they will next season. I’d stick with Mancini too. Hughes wasted a lot of money there in truth.

As for Villa, my epic 09/10 season report will tell all. I think there will be a serious race for the top 4 places next season. Particularly after a World Cup year a lot of the top players may not be at full throttle so hopefully the likes of Spurs, Everton, Villa will have a bit of an advantage.

You cant fault Allardyce or Pulis really. True their teams play dire football but its results that count. Allardyce inherited a shambles there and has turned it around. In comparison, Tony Mowbray knew the ‘Celtic way’ but hadnt a clue about how to win which is the most important thing.

The bottom of the table is horrific though. 31 points would have guaranteed safety this season. With Newcastle not spending any money there will be 3 more shit teams coming up. No doubt about it, the quality of the EPL has dropped significantly over the past year. The 50% tax law has had an effect certaintly on the top quality players coming into England but I think finally there has been a realisation that football clubs like banks need to be run properly. Clubs are cutting back and it is to be welcomed. Naturally that will affect the quality in the short term but these things are cyclical. The Empire will have its day again!!!

Knob

the epl has always been aesthically shit- this season like so many before results wise its been shit to- shamrock rovers would be close enough to the top 6 to be honest & we arent much

Reading there that Chelsea are looking to offer Liverpool their choice of 3 players from Jose Bosingwa, Nicolas Anelka, Ricardo Carvalho, Deco, Salomon Kalou and Paulo Ferreira, plus 40 million in return for Torres.

I think that’s someone else’s medal he’s messing around with.

That’s phenomenal. They surely couldn’t turn that down.

Anelka, Kalou and Bosingwa please.

Boswinga? Not a chance with Johnson there. I’d take Deco or Carvalho with the 2 strikers.
They’ll be a stronger team overall and Chelsea will still have the best team/squad. No brainer for me. But you know these Liverpudlians, they’ll kick up big time, cos they love Torres blaa blaa blaa.

Its a business guys, get with the programme, your tradition and value system means less and less every year.

Deco is 33 Kev, that wouldn’t be very good business.

Isn’t that how TFK signed up Kev?

He can pass a ball, unlike Lucas.

Ya they got rid of 4 or 5 guys, Garda Sean, ball ox and a few more i think. Garda SEan came back on loan for a period though.

I believe there’s a Summer Transfer Thread for such speculation. This thread has served its purpose.
