In fairness Iâm not sure how we could have expected much more . There is no Irish player better than their opposite number on the Belgian team.

In fairness, itâs not fair to compare s tiny nation like Ireland to a huge nation like Belgium with the massive population and resources they have at their disposal.

Its a fairly lazy notion. Italy will probably just rest any players that are on yellows. The players coming in youâd imagine will be chomping at the bit and with a point to prove to play themselves into an Italian side who are likely to there or thereabouts at the business end.
If Eire do somehow limp through in 3rd, am I correct in saying the last 16 opponents are either the winners of Group A or D, France or Spain? Just bring them home now.

I thought we were doing what we had to. The best we can hope for is to contain a team like that and sneak a goal. Unfortunately youâll fail in that scenario more often than you will succeed

Ken Early wondering what happened to McCarthy and he has a point. He was really good in the first half but he just lost all concentration and discipline after the break.
Hendrick is the one I find hardest to adjudicate on. He got loads of ball and took up some great positions but he was very slow and tentative on the ball.
You sense an ever increasing backlash against the fans.
We werenât doing it well though. When we got the ball we shouldâve been keeping it for at least a few passes to give ourselves a breather and then giving a ball up to Shane Long where he could run into space and put pressure on the defenders. Instead we were just kicking it straight up and it just kept coming straight back at us as soon as we kicked it away

Possibly. McCarthy has been injured for a few months to be fair. Clark is just too rash. Two of our three subs are nowhere near match fit but most of the panel have no chance of playing anyway.
