Well that was dismal. The vastly superior team were vastly superior on the day surprisingly enough.
Disappointing individual performances, and some dreadful individual errors since the break. First and third goals were similar in being badly exposed on the break, second was a goal that they threatened to score in the first half with us standing off a cross and not really tracking the run in the centre.
Not sure there was much wrong with tactics or selection. We had our best players on the pitch, unfortunately our best players arenât all that good. McCarthy and Clark were particularly poor for the goals but I think there were plenty of mistakes all over the pitch. We had some possession in good areas and failed to do anything with it. Wes and Hendrick were particularly wasteful in possession but the whole team were sloppy.
Carrying too many lads who are stealing a living playing football.
Ward, Clark, Whelan, Hendricks. Hendricks got the ball outside the box onetime and needed half an acre to turn with it. Mcgeady another one, not related to a proper footballer. Houlihan is useless and hasnât 2 consecutive games in him. Robbie Keane like an auld fella out of a menâs shed coming on.
Fuck knows. Thanks. My thought is that getting dicked 3-0 means a point against Italy is unlikely to be enough.
Ireland seem to struggle if they have to attack.
Or defend.
We needed to be even more defensive in the second half, and came out as if we were playing against Cyprus. Our entire fucking team bar Randolph was in their half before the first goal. So fucking naive.
I think Clark stands out as the poor management call. Keogh was doing fine in qualifying and Clark was culpable for 2 goals in the tournament.
Canât really hear Dunphy but heâs giving McCarthy a slating too. Thatâs fair enough, though we didnât really have any better options in this formation, particularly with attacking midfield options being injured or out of form.
Pity we allowed them to break through so easily though, they didnât have to do that much to score. We saw in the first half they were struggling to create chances when we were even just organised in defence.
