I’d take that fella from last night, he’ll have gone home reviewed the game, realised he gave some terrible, terrible decisions against us and will be keen to make up for it.
Eire fans and media should really just shut up about Thierry Henry and avoid riling the French. All we heard from the Eire media in the build up to the Belgium game was about Belgium’s squandered and under achieving golden generation, trouble in the Belgium camp and what a terrible manager Wilmots was. Courtois got a bit ratty at a press conference the day before the game when he was getting quizzed by the Eire press crew on all of these themes. Bottom line, Eire media played a part in firing up the Belgians. Such mistakes should be avoided ahead of the France game.
Its a classic old FA Cup potential giant killing match up. The French side is largely made up of players from the EPL and the France starting team on Sunday is likely to feature players from the Top 6 EPL sides in Leicester, Woolwich, Spurs, Man City, Man U and West Ham. The Eire side will feature players from the lower leagues like Derby County, Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich, Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley (albeit now promoted) and relegated Norwich City.
Eire have to avoid going behind in the first half and hope then that pressure grows on nervy hosts. As a people, the French are temperamentally suspect and the home crowd will get on their back’s, the longer it goes on. A parallel would be France’s last 16 game in the 1998 World Cup when it took them until 5-6 minutes from the end of extra time to break down an average Paraguay side.
If Eire got to half time level, it could get interesting. If Eire concede an early goal, they’ll lose by 3 or 4.
Agreed. Fuck them and fuck Thierry Henry. Let’s go kick the front door in, not shnake round the back. We obviously play better when we have to win. I hope ww dont slip back into try not to lose mode. Up and at Em. Whactics.
France so far have looked like Brazil did 2 years ago. Nervous and definitely not on the same page.
We could do them but probably not.
Hosts booted out of their own party at the last 16 stage?
The ref will be under more pressure than anyone on Sunday.
As long as we’re aggressive, in their faces and not give them any time on the ball I’ll be happy. We can brute force our way to a win again. Put the shits up them early on, set the tone. If they can beat us with nice flowing football good luck to them.
I appreciate the refereeing in the tournament so far. A lot of refs not buying dives. Hoolahan’s chance just before the goal was because of the ref not buying a big dive from an Italian defender. It’s encouraging to see. Far from perfect as the McClean lack of penalty showed but a step in the right direction.
