Hugely frustrating, but again, fatigue must come into it. Its not an excuse, merely a statement of fact, rightly or wrongly. Also I would believe he felt Llorris had the square ball cut out was it to be played. Of course he still should have played it, but on such miliseconds are games won and lost, legends created or never been.
Anyway, France missed a sackful in the last 15 minutes. It is what it is.
Watched it in the pub so might not be a great analysis but that first half was as good as I’ve ever seen us play. We have a decent team going forward for a few years now and hopefully we can qualify for the World Cup
As I seen elsewhere I know people are a little down and some a little hungover but thousands of people woke up in Galway this morning…things could always be worse guys.
Don’t know much about it but to my untrained eye I don’t think Ward had the legs to make the run to track the scorer. He was pointing out the danger immediately. But was little or no threat down his flank at that point that would have stopped him covering across? Giroud was only other player that forward and two players suckered onto him if he had controlled it or one of them could have pushed out onto the wing if support was needed out there.
Looked a fatigued decision more than a decision to hold his position
He wasn’t the main culprit for the goal obviously.
Mac said Ward let Griezmann wander away from him all the first half. Rocko pointed out a left back cant just wander away from his position because a player goes for a walk.
Ffs of course the players could have done better for the goals. The point is these lads aren’t that good and are always going to make mistakes particularly in bigger games. That’s why most of the players are subs in premier league teams or playing in the championship.
He would be the same age as Hendrick and Brady and was right back on the Ireland under 19 side that made the Euro semi finals in 2011. He is a good player but we aren’t really stuck for right backs
