Wearing my fior Gael hat I’m annoyed about this result as it’ll take attention away from Sunday’s county finals.

The country will come to a standstill on Sunday.

County finals up and down the country during the afternoon and then home for the football on tv from Warsaw. Should be a great day.

She understands

Anyone in the 51?

There’s a lot of talk about McCarthy, Long, Wes etc tonight as everyone pushes their own agenda.

And it’s great that all played really well. And it doesn’t prove everyone wrong, it proves they’re all capable of playing that well with the proper attitude and in a proper system.

But the likes of Stephen Ward has been battered on here and by RTÉ and elsewhere for his performances in the past. In truth he’s rarely been dreadful, and certainly has been generally fine defensively. He was fantastic tonight. To do that with no match fitness and alongside a makeshift defence in front of a new keeper for most of the night and playing behind a winger he’d probably never played with before - that was immense. He put in a serious shift, his attitude was first class, he got forward as often as he could as an out ball, he never played a cowardly pass and his defending was first class. Delighted for him.

As I understand it, we can’t be the highest ranked third team. When results against 6th place teams are discarded, we’re 3 points behind Hungary and 2 behind Ukraine. So to catch them we’d need to win on Sunday, which gives us second place anyway. It’s win or play-off… or 2-2 draw.

I understand we can’t finish as best 3rd place team.

Darren Randolph also deserves bags of credit. Journey man pro , first first ever competitive appearance for Ireland. Was probably 4th or 5th choice at the start of the campaign. Was cool as mustard tonight, his distribution was a marked improvement on Given’s even before Given tweaked his muscle

Miraculous result.

A keeper who has played two matches this season.

A reserve right back plying his trade in the championship.

Left back who has played one game this season.

Centre half playing for the worst team in the premier league.

Other centre back an honest but limited lad playing in the championship.

And they kept a clean sheet against the world champions. 'Kin 'ell…

Agreed. He was much calmer than Given too. Shay has looked uncomfortable since unretiring. It could be his to lose now. A loan might do him no harm if we do end up qualifying for the finals.

And Turks are pricks

Après match. Funny shit

You’d pick up half our team for under €20 mill

Westwood by all accounts has been bang in form for Sheffield Wednesday since returning there but just can’t seen to stay fit for a concerted period of time. I expected him to be back as first choice by the end of the campaign, but like you say Randolph did his chances no harm and will have a chance v Poland potentially to build on tonight
