McCarthy was given the DM role tonight and flourished in it. Maybe that’s been the issue all along, he can’t play with Whelan.

It certainly suited him an awful lot more. I don’t think it’s just the role, his attitude has been questionable in the past. He was zealous in his pursuit of the ball all night today. Disciplined positionally but not afraid to press too when it was on - classy, but I think his attitude was as important as his ability tonight.
