EamonDunphy won’t be going to the Euros because of the terrorist threat. He was spooked by what happened in Manchester at the weekend.
Not that he would have gone anyway, seeing as how he prefers the comfort of the RTE studios telling the nation that footballers, whose boots he’s not fit to lace, are spoofers and chancers.
Eamon Dunphy is letting the terrorists (or in this case the incompetent security company) win.
FYI Information: Darren O’Dea has announced the 23-man Ireland squad he would select if he was manager.
Could we see it please?
If you must. It’s a bit uninspiring but good enough to get to the last 8.
Randolph, Westwood, Given.
Coleman, O’Shea, Keogh, Ward, Brady, Christie, Duffy, Clark.
McCarthy, Whelan, Hendrick, Hoolahan, McClean, McGeady, Walters, Meyler.
Long, Keane, Murphy, Doyle.
I can’t remember who is excluded from reading that but I’d be happy enough. Wouldn’t bring Doyle though.
The likes of Forde, Wilson, Arter, O’Kane, S Quinn, Pilkington, McGoldrick. Probably forgetting one or two but nobody with a really compelling case.
I’d bring Arter for Doyle and wouldn’t care about any of those others. Quinn seems to enjoy some trust though so I’d say he’s probably more likely to make the cut.
Doyle is a complete waste of a pick. Keane, Long, Walters and Murphy all bring different options to the table. It has been 5 years since Doyle was a servicable option at this level and I would be a lot happier to play with one up top with Houlahan or McGeady in behind rather than ever entertain giving Doyle gametimeFour strikers is plenty including Walters .
+1
McClean could stand up on the strikers shoulder in an emergency too.
If you were chasing a game with 15 minutes to go or defending a narrow lead for that matter I would rather see McClean come on as a forward than Doyle
I hear Randolph has been poor for West Ham in the last couple of games? He’ll still start I assume?
If he’s going to play one upfront he’ll play Long, if anything happened to him he’d switch Walters up top. If he’s to spring a sub to score a goal it’ll be Robbie. If we are winning and he needs someone to hold up the ball and Long is tired it’d be Murphy. I can’t see us starting with two upfront at any stage, as in two out and out strikers bar we need goal difference in the last match or something.
I’d rather we had cover in midfield.
Hope Arter gets in ahead of Meyler. Meyler is a bit of a nothing footballer but I think Keane likes him
…because he’s from Cork
Meyler has played right back in qualifying for us. Have the feeling they will pick him for versatility. I don’t rate him either. Arter while nothing special brings a bit of endeavor and spark
Meyler was going well until he got injured that time. Haven’t seen him this season but he’s been a regular starter for Hull
The last friendly against Slovakia showed McClean can play the wide right/second striker role that Walters plays for us. I probably wouldn’t select Doyle either. Is there any other striker we’re forgetting about?
