For a professional footballer, maybe it was akin to it. You wonât get too many better chances
Very surprising to hear itâs Jesus navas from 2012, Man City etc whoâll be right back in the semis for Spain.
One other thing to note: ironically, given their flag, the Swiss do not like a cross. Excluding set pieces, they have only made one aerial cross into the penalty area all tournament. Instead, they prefer to pass the ball into dangerous areas â see Aebischer teeing up Remo Freuler against Italy, or Freuler for Ndoye in the 1-1 draw against Germany â or to get in behind the defence, using the pace of Vargas, Ndoye, Breel Embolo or Kwadwo Duah. The 13 through balls they have played is the most of any team in the tournament
This is seriously impressive stuff. England conceded against Slovakia from something like the way the Swiss like to attack and looked like they werenât good at picking up men in the box in thise situations.
Switzerland are one of the most tactically considered and well-drilled teams in the tournament. They know exactly what theyâre trying to do on the pitch and what they do is fairly unique. They also use some cutting edge Football-Manager style asymmetric over-loading of one side of the pitch.
I think the key for England will be getting out of their own half. Most of the game will be spent with the English backs passing it amongst themselves in their own half. If they can change the match from being about the English centre backs passing in their own half to being about the English midfield passing it amonst themselves in the Swiss half then theyâll win. Their midfield has mostly been misfiring this tournament. England are going to dominate possession, the question is where and which players.
Switzerland could do it. Iâm half-tempted to change my Prediction League prediction to them. I donât think I will be able to watch the game as I will be in the air.
I was at that, Ireland were hammered, was a Friday night iirc. One could tell that young German team was handy at soccer
It was.
Mad to think Ireland reversed the form and took 4 points off them in the next campaign under MON.
Kroos scored the night Sheasy got the equaliser in Gelsenkirchen too i think.
Meyler played that night and his auld lad drove all the way from Amsterdam or somewhere mad.
Testament to the enduring legacy of TFK that such bonds could be formed with @Tassotti and @ChairmanDan!
Dani Olmo was class yesterday. Surely itâs only a matter of time before he gets a move to a bigger club than âLokomotivâ Leipzig. Thereâs been talk about him since Covid times when he was still playing for Zagreb. Very random that he started off there to begin with.
Vargas for Switzerland. What club is he with?
Saudi club I think
Fuck France lads. Boring fuckers have brought very little joy to this tournament
Ya but they knocked out Ronaldo so we drink wine and suck garlic butter out of a snailâs arse in appreciation.
Iâve a strong fancy for the Swiss tonight.
Very unFrench
I have been a big fan of this Swiss team since they made a Euro under 21 final and Basel made an unlikely run in the championship league at the turn of the last decade.
Would be a fitting climax for Sommer, Shaqiri, Xhaka and Rodriguez to make a Euro semi final or final.
Is ENG v SUI the 5pm or 8pm game?
5.00
I was just thinking itâs 18 years to the day since some TFK originals convened in The 51 to watch England in a tournament quarter final. Remember the Rooney sending off, Ronaldo wink, Portugal winning the shoot out &âŚFotF Guy Easterby acting as peacemaker to stop his English pals attacking us for over exuberant celebrations. Time sure flies when youâre acting the cunt.
I really should use my admin privileges to restore this post.
Boggers are so odd

Some difference in sound quality between bbc and RTĂ. Have to endure Shearer now
