European Cup (aka champions league) Qualifying Rounds 2020/21

better late than never but here we go
we are back on saturday with the mini tournament in Nyon

looks like a Drita/Linfield final id imagine on Tuesday
Tre Friori will cause issues tho - one of the only i think San Marinese sides to ever progress in a European tie or score a goal when they beat Bala Town a few years back
Linfield did beat another San Marinese side La Florita over two legs before - it’ll be intriguing anyway

Draw Monday for the next stage
single legged ties - first out home advantage
Dundalk seeded

The single leg games makes these very interesting. Djurgardens away would be a tough first qualifying round game. But any of those teams away from home could go wrong for either of the Irish seeds.

Will the co-efficient standings be posted here?

Are the seeded teams at home??
If not whats the benefit of being seeded?

No.
The benefit is you don’t play another seeded team.

it does indeed
empty stadiums tho will also have an issue
the UEFA cup is interesting -
Bohs cant play in dalymount as they need to use the bar as a changing room ( C-19) and thats a breach of UEFA regulations even at this level so they need to move it to an empty aviva if drawn at home
kind of looses any type of appeal then or chance to rough some crowd of pansies up from montenegro or israel or somewhere

Meh.

In a one legged tie I’d imagine guaranteed to play at home would be nearly more beneficial.

yes
we may need to have a seperate thread tho to facilitate that discussion

If there were crowds, but as it is the advantage is diminished somewhat.

Clubs also have to nominate alternative venues in other countries so that matches can go ahead if travel restrictions wouldn’t allow them.

So Dundalk might not be allowed to travel to play in Sweden and would then have to play in a different stadium in a different country nominated by Djurgardens (which would have to be an Irish green list country). And Dundalk have to provide a list to UEFA in advance of the draw of where they are not allowed to travel. If that list is subsequently updated and Dundalk find they can’t travel to Latvia (which is currently on the green list) but they didn’t have Latvia on a prohibited list, then Dundalk forfeit the tie if they are drawn away to Riga.

@mickee321 analysing the preliminary draws for Europa league and Champions league is a lovely little tradition.

@Rocko
why would Fola Esch not be seeded , however FK Sarajevo and Dinamo Tblisis despite having the same coefficient are?
would they have used country coefficient here as the deciding factor maybe?

Dundalk need to get some wins as the 2016 seeding points earned for those results against BATE Borisov or Borisov Automobile and Tractor Electronics Borisov as James Horncastle calls them, Maccabi Tel Aviv and the draw in Alkmaar will drop off in 2022

It goes in order of recency if it’s a tie. Fola Esch are more reliant on older seasons.

that kassiessa site is excellent

Is the North considered the lowest of the low so? Alongside Andorra & San Marino

yes
Gibralter and the Faroes have shown brilliant progress and have gotten out of the qualifying tournament
Linfield had a great run last year allright in fairness tho
Kosovan teams will be out of it in a year or so
Armenian club football is on an awful slide as well - Europa FC beat pyunik yeravan in 2016 UEFA cup for example
