Extras Christmas Special

I watched the American version online earlier and enjoyed it thoroughly. Apparently there was a number of slight variations between it and the English one, which I haven’t seen yet. It’s online but it’s in 12 separate 7 or 8 minute segments so I haven’t bothered posting them all up here. Some good gags with Clive Owen and with the lads in The Carphone Warehouse shop. I’d recommend it highly and, like The Office, Gervais and Merchant (who was drinking in O’Donoghue’s on Baggot Street on Thursday, 20th December) have ended it while at its peak.

Merchant and the lads in the Carphone Warehouse segments is the best part of the special. He is dancing to the ringtone despite the fact the call is from his sick mother. Gervais stood back in Extras a lot more and doesn’t dominate the scenes as he did in the Office but his celebrity Big Brother rant was a masterclass in acting. The “It” girls reaction. Something along the lines of I’m coming too. Give us 5 minutes to get a bikini on as there is press there.

Bandage after seeing both versions the only changes I could spot was that in the American Version the Krammer talking doll is used and the store managers orders 10,000 Sanjiah dolls but in the Uk edit the Krammer doll talking is not in it and is replaced with the Jade Goody Doll speaking and the store manager orders 10,000 Same Difference dolls. In the Carphone Warehouse scene there is slightly extended dialogue about other Eastenders such as Dirty Den in the Uk edit.

I must get a look at the UK one too when I get a chance. When I was watching it on youtube earlier someone had left a comment saying that Neil Morrissey featured in the UK version but not US one - is that right?

While the lads were doing the dance to the ringtone behind the counter in the shop, it was hilarious before Darren answered the call when he blurted out, ‘It’s my mum, she’s ill’. Then it cut off and he went, ‘Ah, she’ll call back.’

Quality stuff.

After Andy’s speech about the absolute sham of celebrity culture and how he was leaving the Big Brother house, the IT bird said, ‘I’m coming with you. Give me 5 minutes to put my bikini on though - there’s paparazzi outside.’

Have to say I didnt notice Neil Morrissey in it. Might have been in them Ivy scenes as Karl Pilkington was outside playing an autograph hunter and only noticed it was him on the 2nd viewing.

Some quotes from the episode

Maggie: Where are we going?
Andy: Somewhere where no-one cares who I am.
Maggie: Back to the Ivy, then?
Andy: Seriously, somewhere where no-one knows who me.
Maggie: Hollywood?

Bunny: Andy Milman!
Andy: Hello, Bunny. What are you doing?
Bunny: Waiting.
Andy: Waiting? For what?
Bunny: Cock.
Andy: Yeah, it’s never too early for that is it?

Darren Lambs attempted jump over the bbc barricades was class too.
