Once @Rocko gets around to setting up the subcategory for this I will post up a list of the players available. The winner will be crowned the John Delaney Cup.
I am taking Italia 90 as the starting point and have compiled a list of players who have played competitive games for Ireland since then. I would say that 95% are covered and I have ommitted a few ones like Darren Potter, Caleb Folan etc but can be added if needs be.
I have used the amount of caps won as the guiding principle to apportion out which band lads fit into. The bands go from 2 to 10 points. 100+ cappers and one or two others like McGrath and Roy Keane are in the 10 band while lads with a handful of caps in the 2 band and so on.
66 points to pick a starting 11
You must pick a keeper but you can line out your team in whatever formation you wish
Player positions on the list are a guide - feel free to select Gary Doherty at centre half instead of centre forward if you wish but you will be marked down for shoehorning lads in out of position
So if lads think they can play a two man midfield of Wes Houlihan and Andy Reid or Robbie Keane up front a lone striker expect to be picked apart for it.
Weighting should not be given to club career over international. So lads shouldn’t be picking John O’Shea due to his medal haul at Man United and using that as a valid argument to win with.
Same as the hurling each tie will be decided by a public vote
I will post up the list later and give it a few days for lads to have a think and then a registration thread will be set up later in the week with the competition kicking off next weekend. If anyone would like to suggest anything else for the competition let me know.
