Faldo's DIY General thread

Looking for something a bit more specific than “a lot of money”. The side of the house is something like this, except it has a garage rather than the extra room thingy that this has. I don’t think you’d need scaffolding. I presume a standard garage roof would take the weight of somebody on a ladder?

The rendering is one of those spray-on jobs rather than a smooth finish.

Get someone who knows what they are at for sure. That’s a dangerous and messy game if your not sure about it.

Any roof should be able to take anyone. Its how you walk on it is important.

Anyway that looks straight forward.

They are a shower of cunts
My letterbox (or letter plate as it seems to be called online) seems to have come clean off my door. Well the interior flap is gone and so is the external one. All I have left is that brush bit in the middle.

I took a look on the Woodies website there and they only have one letterbox. It’s a different size to my existing one. That’s a fucking pain.

Are these things not a standard size? It seems to be much the same height but it’s definitely a good 5cm wider. Now what I don’t know is whether the gap for posting letters is the same size or not. Could it be that the frame just extends further on this guy but that the actual box bit is the same size? If so, I guess the screws will be in different places anyway and I presume someone like me wouldn’t be able to drill in a PVC door. I have a drill but it usually takes me half a dozen holes to get it right because I’m a wildly inaccurate measurer and driller (I managed to put at least 20 holes in the wall when I was doing the stair gate). And looking on the B&Q website they seem to have a few different sizes there too.

As an extreme measure I’d take a new wooden door fitted for free by @Fran or someone.
This query can be closed off. I have had a new front door fitted and it came with a free letterbox.

I’m starting to do a job or two a week from here on, give me a PM if you want something done in greater Cork area.

Munster Joinery: the biggest shower of cowboys this side of the Irish sea, sadly I see they are getting small foothold with a few of the big boys here like Barrats and Taylor Wimpy, giving the Irish a bad name with their brutal service, product and aftercare

Beware people, this cowboy has Zero qualifications.

Absolutely incorrect.

You told me so, Kev.

what did i tell you?

That you had no qualifications as a Carpenter.

Irish qualifications Har. Trade tested in USA & OZ (a farce i do admit re:Oz), plus 8ish years experience.

Believe me, having seen some of the “qualified” work i have seen here and elsewhere then it doesn’t always count for a whole pile.

Having said that i do have a respect and have acceptance of the knowledge and experience picked up in serving time here is very valuable, and no i can’t say i have that. But i just refuse work i’m not experienced at, saves any hassle.

Anyway, i’m not here to sell myself, it was a bit of a joke, i hardly expect any business off here.

dickheads, horrible people in general. Treat staff like shit and make everyone who deals with them life a nightmare re;payment, invoicing etc etc.

Anyone know who is getting the main contract for Pairc I Chaoimhe?

You’ll have to do a lot of ass kissing to Frankeen given all the shit you’ve given him on Irelands No 1 Sporting forum before he’ll allow you make the tea for the labourers on that gig.

I made a nice few bob off munster joinery a few years back. House freezing… owners could figure why. Call in KP with the thermal image camera. 90% of the time its was the windows and 90% of the time it was MJ windows. Warped, seals worn off or perished… pure fucking shit.
