Is this guy speaking sense or is he a bit of a crackpot?[/QUOTE]
My initial feedback is that I fucking detest how the Irish Indo can’t find fucking images to fit their image box and can’t be flexible enough to cater for different size images so even with a shitty stock photo like that, we are treated to annoying black bars.
The Annual Conference is taking place in Cork in the coming weeks. According to the Chartered Accountants Ireland blurb, Frankie Sheahan will “line out” alongside Peter O’Mahony and Sean O’Brien for a Q&A session on one of the days. Was Sheahan banned for taking illegal substances during his rugby football career?
I attended the Emerging Business Leaders conference in the wonderful Chartered Accountants House yesterday. In all a very fruitful day was had.
The conference begun with an address from the Institute President, Ronan Nolan. He said that we were looking at an increase in subsciption fees down the line as ‘I am sure you will all agree that this is wonderful building and unfortunately it has to be paid for’.
Next up was Peter Brown. He gave a straightforward description of the Irish and Global economy in that we are fucked. France he said in particular was a ticking time bomb with no growth, rapidly rising unemployment and a shift in politics to the far right which may lead them to pull out of the Eurozone. He was interesting.
Next up was Margaret Consadine who waffled away about influencing people but not anything of significance.
After the break came a Deloitte Panel discussing any changes in accounting issues. They took the fom of a partner in an interviewer role with four more junior members of staff taking on the detail. It worked well with them seeming to know their stuff although their lack of slides was a big drawback. Good discussions were had on the upcoming FRS 102 and new Companies Act.
Finally, Gavin Duffy of Dragon’s Den fame did a session. He basically waffled on about leadership, then how the economy was great and we shouldn’t talk it down, then back to leadership, then motivation and finally how to get ahead in business. It is all about how we act in meetings apparently.
There were drinks and food provided in a pub nearby afterwards but unfortunately I couldn’t attend. I would have liked to have conversed with other attendees though as they were clearly my type of people.
Sounds like a very revealing and rewarding event, @farmerinthecity. I thought you were engaged with client work yesterday rather than institute activities but I look forward to hearing more about this in person.
