I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the layout of the paper since you would have passed under the old system but I got competent in every area except in one area called business leadership. That fucked me big time.
I am fine with Financial reporting,Audit,Tax,Finance etc but they fail me on a subject consisting of marketing,HR,Ethics and strategy.
Its pretty sickening and I feel very depressed about the whole situation but I need to lick my wounds, stop feeling sorry for myself and when chance arises again - take it.
The thing hardest to come to terms with is- I dont think I would have changed a whole pile with regards to preparation. So I’ve come to the realisation that a lot of it is down to chance and luck on the day. This was a sobering thought as I drank myself into oblivion over the weekend.Other people in the same boat are switching to ACCA but I haven’t come this far to fall at the final hurdle.I still have the elective to show for my efforts.
However I’m going to play my cards again. As the saying goes ; the sweet isn’t half as sweet without the sour.[/quote]
Sorry to hear that. Sickening way to go down on mickey mouse topics like HR and ethics. If you had re-read Tinnions posts you would have been fine on the Leadership part.
Do you have to sit them all again? Don’t even consider ACCA, you are better than that.

Yea Balbec, Even though I got competent in the other areas I will have to repeat the core again.
There is one case study on day 1 - 4.5 hours
3 Simulations on day 2 - 4.5 hours
Elective audit/Tax/Advanced performance measurement day 3. - 4.5 hours.
The first 2 days as mentioned above are the core and encompasses 6 areas:bus leadership,IT,Audit,Tax,Finance,Financial reporting,Mgt accounting and Finance.
I got the elective, so that much is in the bag.Because I didn’t get a competent in business leadership I fail the core overall and have to repeat the first 2 days again.Absolutely sickened. There is no repeat. Will have to wait until sept 2013.That might not necessarily be a bad thing though because I am fairly disillusioned by the whole system and would find it hard to motivate myself to repeat. At least there is enough time to regroup.
I have heard some horror stories though about some people who sat 3 sets of finals under the old system and who are after failing twice under the new FAE syllabus. It is some hardship that we sign up for.
In the old days when people like me, CCHA, Bandage and Brian Tinnion did the exams, ethical behaviour was taken for granted because of who we are and how we behaved. It is a sign of how badly the country has fallen when the new crowd have to take a fucking exam for it.
I rarely go to the Christmas lunch, Fagan. I’m more of an Annual Dinner person myself. Speaking of which…24th January in The Shelbourne…who’s in? We can go €750 for a table of 10 or just get the €80 individual tickets.
When I took a break from IT for a few years, I qualified as an Engineer in the Energy field and payed my annual membership to Engineers Ireland. It was mandatory if you were tendering for Government contracts but apart form that it was an absolute waste of time and money.
I noticed an article in Phoenix recently whereby the members of the Law Society are begining to get a bit agitated about membership subscriptions and specifically how much the permanent staff in the Law Society are paid. Is this a source of concern for the chartered accountants or is there still value for money in the subs rates?
Jugs was just telling me about a KPMG chap who got done for robbing a bakery at knifepoint on the first day of his vacation in Boston. Quality stuff.
