No… I’ve a female friend very interested in teaching in Cambodia or Vietnam for a year…

English language teaching or normal teaching? The first one is a piece of piss. Do a decent tefl course and take your pick of schools. The second one is more difficult, you can cold call international schools but the bones of their hiring is done earlier in the year, there are international teacher expo type things. But they’ll have a few jobs left at this time of year as they juggle the last few posts. These will be less well paying but are a good stepping stone to the full gig.

Very creepy thread.

It’s the way to go. Fantastic lifestyle. Much better life than normal teaching here. Once you’re in that system it’s picking and choosing which schools to work in. Harder work though(well maybe not harder but more shit from parents/ school to deal with). @larryduff can intro her to his school. Tell her to contact all the international schools she can Google in that region I don’t think there’s that many in Cambodia but there’s a tonne in Asia and it’s easier to get those jobs if you already have one.

Cheers, kid… Does Larry check in here much?

Howdy CM. Lifestyle can be very good here as juhniallio says with lovely weather most of the year. Cost of living is very cheap. Poverty here can be extreme with average wage about $100 a month. Public education system is dreadful (one of lowest GDP spends anywhere) and health system is non existent.
Challenges with working in some international schools here as schools that pay well, are very profit driven and that often doesn’t lead to good quality education and as a teacher you can be compromised.

I now work for an NGO here that works with training primary school teachers… If your friend is interested in coming here happy to help her. As a qualified teacher she has skills which are needed. I have a website on teaching here actually (cambodiaireland.com) and if friend is looking to get involved in NGO world there are a myriad of opportunities and great feeling of satisfaction from working with good NGO that is making sustainable change. Personally speaking moving here was best move I ever made.
