My father knew him well. He was a very young man when he died.

He was and he was an absolute gent. It was a tragedy. Ask your Dad what club he was? I can’t remember. We suffered some serious trauma in the 80s losing Tony Forrestal and Martin O Grady on the way back from a match in a car crash as well.

I’d well believe it. That was when Ballygunner pulled some stroke with the county final?

That was 1992. There was a protocol in the county that the final would be in Walsh Park or Dungarvan every other year unless there were two Eastern or Western teams in the final in which case the final would be in Walsh Park or Dungarvan as the case may be. This suited us royally as Walsh Park was effectively a home venue for us. For county finals we’d tog off in our own dressing rooms and walk down the Keane’s Road in our socks to Walsh Park getting plenty of good wishes along the way from locals so we were in a great frame of mind by the time we got to Walsh Park.

Anyway Ballygunner discovered a bye law that if the final was due to be in Dungarvan and one of the Eastern teams objected to it moving to Walsh Park then Dungarvan it was. The game was in the balance for a long time before a magical pass from an 18 year old Paul Flynn put the Gunners in for the winning goal.

No, Richie, Nenagh Eire Og, hurled minor and u21 with Tipp, farming background. Other Flannerys were Puckane / Kildangan

Is the geary related to the lad that played football for Waterford and later cork and nemo rangers ? Early noughties.

Yes that’s his father. Martin Geary lived in Tramore which is a football and soccer town. Niall Geary thus played football for Tramore and was very good at it.

I should have added Henry Shefflins uncle Denis to the list of outsiders who played for Mount Sion. Denis had a pub in the town called Shefflins surprisingly enough. It later became Harvey’s. Denis was corner back on the team that lost the 1982 All Ireland club final.

Was Brian greene an underrated hurler ? Seemed very good and looked like a lad that could play anywhere on field

Brian was a gifted hurler like his father Jim and could play anywhere like his father but especially across the back line. He spent his best years in Chicago though which effected his sharpness and was caught out badly by Joe Deane for the decisive goal in the 2003 Munster final.

@Fagan_ODowd would the bar in yer clubhouse do a good trade in normal times?

Looked a lovely spot full of characters when I was there once upon a time.

It would yes. It keeps the club going. And the fact that it is so close to Walsh Park means we get a great bounce when there is a big match there.

Richie is a grandson to Dick Stokes of Limerick fame.

The Tipp jersey with a blue collar is lovely.

Malahide

The first segment of this thread is absolute classic TFK insanity and seethe level 5. Should be bottled and marketed as top shelf Irish whiskey.

Yeah but which side of the Kiladangan/Nayna border is the farm?
