That’s one problem, the reason they go too long is that no ones held accountable. There’s no court of public opinion, and people get understandably bored quickly reading the same arguments repeated so ignore the debates. This allows one or both parties to ignore questions asked or contradictions with no blowback, and leads to never ending shouting matches. I’m not sure how this can be policed, but it renders any debate almost pointless.
I think anonymous internet discussions have great value, a great outlet when posters who are stuck in an office making inane pleasantries to co workers, can then go online and rant about fantasy sports or constipation. TFK has prevented several mass shootings I’d wager. but the value is lessened when posters can’t be held to what they say by just rebranding or creating multiple aliases to agree with themselves. I’m not sure charging an entry fee would dissuade them, trolling seems to be a big part of the day for some peoples warped personalities, very hard to get people to give that up. Can profiles be tied to ip addresses? Not revealing them fully obviously, but enough so posters would be more wary of what they write, and wouldn’t create multiple aliases.
Which brings me to the ignore function, I’m sure it just happened to be part of the old sites functionality and not this ones but it was golden. Again trolls, or just plainly stupid posters are unavoidable here and it drags the place to the gutter.
I’m on a mission to civilise this place.
I think if we could just put certain posters in the dungeon on an occasional basis it would be a great help to us.
You’re an interesting case study in online forum behaviour pal. When you rebranded from sandymount red you refused to admit it was a rebranded until outed by the segunda and according to Mac on some horsey thread. Why did you feel the need to rebrand? Why did you not admit your old username, were you ashamed of a certain post or posts?. Or bored of your internet persona and wanted to start fresh?

Who would vote them in there though? In an ideal world if a poster in a debate refused to answer a question or point brought up they would receive an infraction, second occasion a dungeoning for a few hours. But that would only affect reasonable people wishing to have a debate, other cunts would wear dungeonings as badges of honour.

I don’t think aliases is a big problem at all. Someone discontinuing one account and setting up a new one is infrequent and harmless when the first one is discontinued anyway. I can check to see if there are duplicates and do sometimes but it’s not a big problem and there are flash positives because there are a few posters on here who share computers. Again it’s not a major problem.
I like where you’re going with Will McAvoy’s notion, but much like a lot of Sorkin’s writing, it is based in a neverland kind of place. TFK needs a someone to bring the rain to wash the streets clean. I’m willing to take a Tom Doniphon role here. I’ll rid the place of the ne’er do wells, even if it means I can’t exist in the new west. You can be the Ranse Stoddard.

The only way of defeating trolls is to starve them of the attention they crave, the ignore function does this perfectly. With TFK about to become a place of business not just a forum, a cleansing is required. Those cultural references were alien to me by the way, I’ll try see the play at some stage
