Ferry Bad Mistake

Have yet to meet a member of staff who would disagree with you there, much more staff only areas on Ulysses, also she’s much more stable in rough seas than Inishmore. These factors would make for a better standard of life on board I suppose.

Bad day for Rosslare, Wexford and the South East.

All roads (and ships) lead to Dublin.

The rest of the country becoming a vassal state for Dublin.

in this case, Dublin is the vessel state

It does seem a bit silly to be effectively closing ports as we lose one of our main routes to Europe. I suppose Dublin and Foynes is where it’s at these days.

Verona Murphy of the IRHA has her finger on the pulse here. Irish Rail are the de facto port operators and they’re useless. Proposing to spend 15m on Rosslare over 10 years.
Meanwhile Dublin port are spending 1.5bn on upgrading. Cork and even Foynes are spending multiples of the spend on Rossalre.

You couldn’t make it up. Does anybody know if Wexford have any active TD’s.

It’s the active bit that’s the catch.

I’d presume they are closing it because it doesn’t pay. I’d imagine if there is a hard brexit it will pay very well indeed and won’t be closed

Are Irish ferries a private company?

Is this the end of the Limerick - London Bus Service? After Brexit, this could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

A couple of the boys from home went drinking of a Friday evening in a pub in Rathkeale where they’d have been friendly with the owner. They were supping away at the bar and he asked were they going to waste away the weekend drinking locally again? When they replied in the positive he told them to cop themselves on, took £300 (punts) from behind the bar, told them that a bus to London would be passing by the door in an hour and to take themselves off to England for a proper weekend. So off the two boys went.

 :pint: You’d get a much better class of weekend on the mainland.

@Rintintin won’t like these revelations.

I wouldn’t bother trying to smuggle anything out of Dublin Port, forumites. Customs doing the divil and all of searches here. Sniffer dogs in and out of car boots.

I went over to Wales and back on the ferry last year. No checks on the way out or on landing that I can recall, ferry staff didn’t even check how many in the car. On the way back a Garda put up his hand to stop and I rolled down the window, -“are ye Irish?” -“we are ya” -“go on so.” Watertight.

I happened to be chatting to the commercial Director of Rosslare Port over the Xmas holidays. They have massive expansion plans in the pipeline and all the Brexit investment will be a great thing for the Port. New routes to other parts of Europe on the way and 2-3 new Ferry operators coming onboard. Sounds promising but how much of it will happen would be my worry

Why would you take a ferry to Europe? Sounds like a horrendous waste of time. 17 hours just to get to France ffs sake
