Japan don’t really deserve to go through, they just got lucky against Colombia. They’ll limp out of the last 16 whereas Senegal could do anything.
You’d expect more form him now though as he has two years where he has been playing for a top side in Serie A and got Champions League and Europa League experience.

Personally, I think Japan are soft enough and will fold against England or Belgium. Senegal have a bit of character and at least with their pace, power & high-tempo style; they’ll surely cause a bit of bother. They’re just a more entertaining team.
