FIFA 2018 World Cup Thread

Whatever way the Italian commentators here were pronouncing Japan’s first goal scorers name it sounded like Tamagotchi. I found it momentarily mildly amusing

I was just thinking of that as Didi was talking about the apparent discord between Hazard and De Bruyne.

That’s Walloon v Fleming right there anyway.

The Japanese haven’t left themselves that exposed at the back since the battle of midway

This is the Tottenham Hotspur World Cup mate. We’re providing nearly every headline.
Harry Kane captain of England leading goalscorer. White Hart Lane stalwarts past and present, Chadli and Vertonghen leading that Belgium comeback tonight. Hugo Lloris captaining a now unstoppable looking France. Son scoring one of the goals to eliminate reigning champions Germany. Davinson Sanchez pantomine villian for Colombia. One of the worst ever Tottenham signings Paulinho starring for Brazil. Christian Eriksen missing a penalty in the shoot out lottery for Denmark last night.

They were level at midway, in fact they got the upper hand as the battle progressed, but a Leyte Gulf in class between the sides certainly appeared.

The Red Devils were superior in air power.

That’s well and good but it’s problematic when you’d like to know how games are going, a biased running commentary on the exploits of spurs players past and present isn’t much good

As if the FAI and IFA had a combined team

Was dissapointed to see the Japanese go out tonight to that counter attack in the last minute.

The majority of Belgians are cunts, not to mention Henry and Martinez.

Two prized cunts.

Brady talking about how Henry probably felt sorry for Japan. I’d say Richard Dunne was fit to kill him.

To be fair, I thought Henry handled the situation well.

Thats a good one.

i agree 100%
that belgian winner is a goal worthy to win any game, a brilliant goal, Luakaku’s dummy ( my Mrs. said he just missed it ) at the moment was pure class
There was a lot to like from the way Belgium dug that out, Martinez won that game from the bench getting on Fellaini and Chadli
There was a lot to like from Japan also, Kagawa is a fantastic player and the lad at the back from Soton put in some great tackles, the keeper tho,

ah FFS
can we give the Belgians credit for the break?
you were like this too after croatia beat argentina
it was a questionable call from Honda but that’s just how japan roll i think, they werent sitting back, they wanted to win it

I guess Martinez deserves credit to a certain extent but they were all over the place defensively, and I’d tend to go for the got out of jail cliche moreso. Bring on two big, useless brutes, go direct and get back into it at 1-2 from a jammy set piece goal.

Belgium showed serious pace in the way they moved the ball in attack, the best attacking pace of any team in the tournament, maybe with the exception of France on Saturday. I watched some of their game away to Bosnia last October when Eire were relying on results in other groups to have a chance of qualifying. I think it finished 4-3 or something, it was a ridiculous game which kept swinging back and forth. After tonight it looks like a pattern with them.

They’re like Newcastle 1995/96.

Come from behind wins like that can be gold in making a team believe.

Logic says Brazil should put them away as their defence looks a total mess, but they have genuine firepower from several sources and Brazil have faced nothing like that up to now. It could be another goalfest.

The winner tonight was Liverpoolesque.

In the context of playing Japan tho maybe it was the correct decison to introduce these two Arabs or “brutes” as you refer to them ( God knows what you call Luakaku)
They were full of gas and Fellaini created havoc from set pieces with his sheer awkwardnes, as did Chadli who just rampaged thru the physically small japs ,
Mertens was pretty abysmal and it was this route one approach that was a major influence in turning proceedings, the first goal goal i agree tho was straight out of SPL/LOI with the hoof into the air and the looping header

It was a fantastic goal, utterly ruthless in the way it was executed. The whole thing must have taken less than 10 seconds from start to finish. There’s always the feeling with Brazil that they could have a mental collapse if they go behind so it would be tremendously interesting to see how they react should Belgium take the lead.

Belgium’s defence is made up of good individual players, so perhaps they have the potential to collectively up their game Dejan Lovren-style. They need to introduce an element of nastiness to their game because they were far too nice tonight.

I feel that Eden Hazard still has the potential to take this tournament by the scruff of the neck.
