Seasoned Argentina watchers won’t be surprised by that. The line-up looked very weak. One man can’t do it all. The problem is that a lot of the other players appear to think he can. Argentina carried very little wide threat, especially on the right. I would nearly have put Messi wide right for a while himself to mix it up.

Stone wall peno not awarded to Argentina there. This VAR is a farce. The one given in the French game was questionable then a certain, blatant trip not given in Argentina match. You wouldnt have much confidance in the VAR system going forward.

Everything there is to need to know about it, while you have none I have it by the bukcetload.
To make VAR reliable, every questionable incident has to be reviewed, and there has to be long breaks in play to allow for several different camera angles to be viewed because different angles can sometimes be contradictory. If every questionable incident is reviewed to that extent, that will massively disrupt the flow of the game, especially as after most questionable incidents, play would continue otherwise, thus there would have to be lots of artificial stopping of the play.
But if it’s used sparingly as it has been so far, inevitably there will be incidents that are not reviewed such as the penalty that should have been given in the Argentina-Iceland match, and that creates as much controversy as it solves. In my view they’d be as well to dispense with the whole concept.
I 100% agree with you. Advertisers would love these breaks in play but soccer is not that type of game. The reason we watch sport is the unpredictable nature of it. The ref is a random variable. Randon variables create suspense and entertainment. Should we just give real madrid the trophy every year because they spend the most money? VAR is a terrible idea but they could turn terrible into bearable if its done 99% right. Stone wall penalty to Argentina not given.
