The beautiful game.
What teams that play like Mexico failed to qualify?
Chile? Any others?
I missed Spain-Portugal but this is the best half I’ve seen by a country mile
Germany don’t have much of a defensive midfield when they lose the ball. Kroos and Khedira are very advanced and leaving a huge gap for Vela. At least Kroos is more dangerous with the ball. Khedira isn’t doing enough to justify being absent defensively. (cc @Big_Dan_Campbell)
He knows that they will be held just short of Moscow
Mexico have a bit of a history in the World Cup of starting well, playing well for an hour or 75 minutes before fading. Round of 16 games against Germany in 1998, Argentina in 2006 and Netherlands in 2014 all games that Mexico took the lead in and dominated for long spells before losing 2-1.
A tremendous half of football. The best of the tournament after Spain-Portugal. Herrera has been quality in midfield.
Yeah they are very game. Germans might bring on Gomez for aerial ability. Game that would suit him as Germans getting ball into lots of wide positions.
Just caught the last 5 minutes of the half, Mexico wasted a number of breakaway chances there. There was one break where all Vela had to do was lift his head and release two lads who were through on the other wing. They will need a second goal.
Long range shooting … Gerry is wobbling here.

At every single World Cup they’ve been in going back to at least 1994 (you could probably throw in '86 as well), they’ve looked like they could really do something, but never do. They’re a tremendous team to get through the group stages though.
They’re the sleeping giant of international football - massive potential if they ever seriously got their act together.
Awful from the Germans… they have zero ideas here. Game gone a bit flat.
Khedeira is a fraud
This is Mexico’s 16th appearance at the World Cup. That’s one more than France, Spain and England. Only Brazil, Germany (including West Germany), Italy and Argentina have appeared in more.
Am I correct in saying if Germany lose here and only ended up 2nd in the group, they’d most likely face Brazil in the Round of 16?
Hernandez is Mexico’s weak link. Vela had a fine game

Yep.
Typical Mexico missed chance there. Should have been 2-0.
Yeah, should have finished it off there. Germany will probably win this 2-1 most likely with a dubious penalty, fortunate goal or a combination both.
Should be 3.
They don’t have any superstars but the Mexicans are all really comfortable with the ball
