Unreal. Fuck those boring European bastards

Wow. What a result for Mexico. Potentially blows the draw wide open if they can go on and win the group as they should do.

@Cicero_Dandi will be just seething about that blow to European prestige. Italy’s old wartime axis partners letting him down as well.

Eire.

That was fantastic.

Delighted.

I predicted that Germany won’t make it out of their group mate, I’d be worried if I was you, I’ve also predicted the same fate for England.

Shades of Ireland win over Italy in 94 about that one.

I’m no expert but looking at the Mexico squad last week I was thinking they weren’t half bad.
I was going to stick a few quid on them getting to the semis. I suppose those odds won’t be good now…

Viva Mexico! Exactly what the tournament needed.

There’s a scenario opening up here where almost all the pre-tournament favourites end up in one half of the draw come the knockout stages.

Pre-tournament, theoretically you would have expected the quarter-final draw to work out something like as follows:

Top half:
Uruguay v France
Brazil v Belgium

Bottom half:
Spain v Argentina
Germany v England

Should Germany finish second in their group, they would go into the top half and almost certianly meet Brazil in the last 16.

Argentina could be doing well to even reach the last 16 and if they finish second they’ll go into the top half and likely meet France in the last 16.

If England finish second in their group and then get through the last 16, they’ll likely face a team they’d fancy their chances against in the quarter-finals - ie. Mexico or maybe Switzerland or Serbia.

A lot rests on the shoot-out to win Group B for Spain and Portugal - the winner of that could be looking at a handy enough route to the final - possibly Russia, Croatia and England.

Brazil could face the following route from the last 16 on: Germany, Belgium/England, France.

France might face: Argentina, Spain/Portugal, Brazil.

Didi was talking bobbins about the German side lacking experience and laying the blame at the squad being inexperienced.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a more experienced squad in this tournament. Look at the side that started:

Neuer - 77 caps

Kimmich - 30 caps
Hummels - 65 caps
Boateng - 72 caps
Plattenhardt - 7 caps

Kroos - 84 caps
Khedira - 76 caps

Muller - 92 caps
Ozil - 91 caps
Draxler - 45 caps

Werner - 15 caps

Only two of those players were in their first major international tournament. 8 of them won the World Cup 4 years ago.

Just saw Kolarov’s free kick there. Woof.

Brian Kerr was the best thing about it.

He’s the best thing about everything.

The quality of leadership has declined.

Lahm, Schweinsteiger and Klose are gone.

Muller has had a precipitous decline over the last couple of years.

I wouldn’t class Kroos, Ozil or Khedira as leaders.

That leaves Neuer, Hummels and Boateng as the leaders of the group alongside a declining Muller. That’s not a great standard of leadership.

Germany have lost their officer class since 2014. Didi knows.

You shower of sociopathic mad men. You’re missing the point

Alisson is rumoured to be coming to Europe in a transfer to a big team according to Dunphy.

Great news. Be great to see him ply his trade in Europe.

Is Dunphy a supporter of the Lega Nord, who consider anything below Florence to be Africa?
