Fitness XL- Your training routine

Did another 6km this evening. More or less the same time span as last night which I was pleased with as I have a cold coming on and it didn’t really have an impact on my performance. Legs were heavier tonight than before.

If your going with Kevs suggestions… Elverys have kettlebells on sale at present. Picked up 2 x 16kg ones this evening for 72 euro.

That’s cheap. They are about 80 dollars each here.

do you not find that ridiculous kev?..surely the majority of fellas who worked on a building site cud make something similar and with the same effect?..

Cut out the weed.

?

Exactly.

Yip I do, it’s outrageous, but everything here is, just one person fucking another person over down along the line. They can be self made as you suggest and there is a shit load of stuff in the web showing ya how to do it.

Yeah, there isn’t much to them in fairness.

I assume a kettle-bell can be used effectively enough to do Russian twists also? I was looking at buying a medicine ball but didn’t see the point.

Ya it can, but MB’s are brilliant for upper body plyo

What’s the most I should pay for a good foam roller?

I bought one in Physio Needs in Ringsend for about €40 a while back.

A piece of foam for €40.
Two bits of cheap metal shaped into a ball for €72

These fitness companies know what they are at alright.

Not to mention the supplement companies.

I saw a gym one time in the states, way back before these garage type Crossfit gyms became popular made up completely of stuff people thrown out. It was very impressive.

My dad welded his own weights 30 years ago, they are still perfect.

A neighbour of mine has his own handmade set of dumbells back in the day. They were pretty much just two plastic flower pots full of cement with a piece of a wooden shovel handle linking the two. Presume they would work as well as any other type of dumbell. He must have had eight or ten of them all different weights

I got my brother law to make a set of dip bars and a squat rack. Both designed to attach to the wall.

Perfect job.

Squat rack attached to the wall sounds interesting, how does it work, any chance of a photo?

I’ll take one for you Kev. Its non adjustable and you have to back into it!

Not too unlike this

There’s a new gym on Edward st Limerick City. A chap has coverted an old mechanics garage into a gym and it is only two euro a session. Walk in squat rack, proper heavy equipment etc. I have yet to check it out but sounds ideal.
