Was there any other back up winger or tricky attacker as a change up option? I can’t remember to be fair. Hadn’t John O’Shea come on the scene as that season developed after we’d secured qualification & there was some clamour to include him? But I can’t recall who else was in the shake up for spots in the attacking areas, & Mick was loyal to those who’d soldiered with him in previous campaigns.
He got his first cap that spring before the WC v Croatia - gave away a pen for a hand ball in the match.
I don’t think we had much depth outside of that 23 - Sadlier was coming through at that time too but was injured. The likes of Graham Barrett too but neither did much after

Sweden and North Macedonia already eliminated Italy in the playoffs in recent years, denying qualification for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, respectively.
