In Europe pretty much yes. The vast majority of teams now are focused on possession based tactics as opposed to ten years ago.
Much like hurling their isn’t much individuals anymore. It’s all about the team. That pretty much all stemmed from Barcelona/Spain and continued with ronaldo and Real Madrid.
The game/sport always evolves and changes… that’s down to coaches and philosophy more so than reacting to certain players… The possession game is also nothing new. See Ajax / Holland in the 70s. Barcelona, via Cruyff, picked up the mantle … But it’s been around donkeys years.
