Foreign born GAA players

The piece MBB put up there got me thinking of guys who have moved to Ireland from foreign shores and have adopted themselves into our culture entirely by playing GAA.
I know Naomh Aban in Cork have a Polish full forward playing in the Senior Football Championship. Can’t find his name.
Jurgen Werner, a German won an All-Ireland Club title with O’ Donovan Rossa, Skibereen in 1993 and still plays with Ballinora in Premier Intermediate now at 36ish.
Richard Umanga, Nigeria played full forward for Watergrasshill in the 2007 Premier Intermediate Hurling Final.

Any others around the place.
At underage Cork is full of unfamiliar names on team sheets, i’m sure its the same in alot of the urban centres.

This has got to be the best one of all surely?

Basically, anyone from Cork.

Danny Culloty of Newmarket and Cork is another.

Article from Wednesday’s Times on German born Kerry minor Max Thiemann:

Setanta had one of the Cumann na mBunscoil finals from Croke Park on a few years ago and the two star players were the full forwards, both black lads with African names. Turned into a shoot out between them as they were catching every high ball coming in and sticking it in the net. Maelruains from Tallaght was one of the schools involved I think.

Danny “The Yank” Culloty. He came down from the mountains and hasn’t he
done well.

Sean g.

Darren O’Sullivan was bron in London.

Ryan McMenamin was born in Canada.

Think Ronan McGarrity was foreign born too.

Matty Forde was born in Bethlehem :pint:

Pat O’Neill who used to manage Dublin and won two All-Irelands in the 70’s was born in Zimbabwe.

I was gonna leave you off. Saw Thiemann in that game, he is raw as fuck, but is a huge stock of a man with a Darragh O S like spring. Jack will look after him.

I thought this should concentrate more on lads who have come to Ireland in their later years as opposed to lads who just happened to born abroad and moved back to Ireland at a young age.

I suppose i was thinking of guys who still had their accent, and had grown up as well in a foreign country. Danny had a strange accent.
Sean Og would definitely be one.

staurt mackenzie-smith? or does he just sound american?

Not really sure if they are born outside of Ireland but anyway…

Francis Usanga is the lads who plays for Watergrasshill, he seems to have disapeared by this stage by this stage but he got 3-2 against my team in Under-21 Hurling championship a few years back, single handedly destroyed us. Very awkward player. Yassin Browne of Mallow(?), Kelvin Kruschel of Midleton, Joshua Kra of Douglas etc.

There seems to be loads of young talented players in Dublin who pesumebly have non-Irish parents of one form or the other, Ted Furnam, Luke Sweetnam, Diaz brothers, Alamgir brothers etc.

this thread is a thinly veiled

I once shook hands with a Biffo, there’s no way I’m racist.
