Whats all these biggles and Raf jibes about ncc?
The buildings housing the Royal Hibernian Military School, Dublin were erected in Phoenix Park, overlooking the village of Chapelizod in the Liffey valley (in full view of Wicklow mountains) in Ireland first taking in 90 boys and 50 girls as pupils (in the charge of an Inspector and Inspectress, assisted by the Chaplain and an assistant mistress) in March 1770. The site originally occupied three acres but by 1922 its boundary walls enclosed thirty three acres.
The foundation of the School came about in 1769 when King George III granted a Charter of Incorporation on 15th July, the School Governors holding their inaugural meeting on 6th November in Dublin Castle. [1]
By 1808 the system and organisation of the school followed closely that of its sister school, the Duke of York’s Royal Military School (then at Chelsea, London, England).
In 1853 the school’s first “stand of colours” were presented by the then Prince of Wales and, in the same year, the girls at the school left to join their own separate establishment, the Drummond School, which was founded for them at Chapelizod.
Bohemians football club are directly linked to this.

So they were originally a west brit schoolboys team?
a british army team- the regiment that crusher the howth gun running were from the same school
Sure what do expect form an English game?
calcio is actually an italian game- the brits just drew up the rules, just like boxing & just like gga where the brits decided on the teams:p
let it go…
I stand corrected
no worries- you support a team based on how the brits wanted to administer Ireland- i dont
and you just support a team playing a game introduced to us by the brits - i don’t
Technically Wexford corresponds pretty much identically to the Kingdom of Ui Chinsellaig, hence the diocese and county match up. So Wexford is one of the few counties that actual isn’t based on the artificial english administrative divisions of the middle ages
You stand corrected
i support a number of international games- you sport a rural game that is dying;)http://www.thefreekick.com/board/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif
Cricket?
Popular in rural fingal by all accounts
How long do you think it has left?
anyone else think that there should be a sub forum set up for the league of ireland fans on here…other relevent topics that could be put up there could include “anyone have any other ideas as to how i can scam more unemplyment benefits off the government” or “where to score good gear in dublin”…
well i suppose you could argue that the current recession might lead to immigration falling which means Ireland being less multicultural which is good for the GGA but then again technology is replacing the need for farm hands which is bad for rural life- so it really depends on the uniculture technophobe trends over the next few years
Could you explain the link please? I’ve heard the jibes but never a proper explanation.
If it is true, while bad, I think it could be consigned to history - don’t think there’s any current links. If you dig deep enough you can find dirt in most places.
