I have to attend a funeral mass tomorrow as I can’t make tonight’s removal. Is it acceptable to attend in shorts?

I wouldn’t say so tbh

No. If you ‘have to’ attend then shorts aren’t acceptable sartorially.

I’d nearly put on the long pants just to blend in, but who knows in this weather

Hang the slacks/chinos in the back of the car and a quick change when you get there

Change in the back of the church.

I’m not part of the mourning party and am no relation. The have to attend part is more so on my part

To be honest in this day as long as you’re not talking hot pants or Clare GAA shorts I don’t think anyone would give two fucks.

Fagan is spot on here. No one will give two fucks really once you’re not in the lead group of mourners and/or in fun boy shorts.

I was at a funeral mass in Louth on Wednesday, there was one guy there in shorts. I judged him

Myself and @Assumpta_Gilhooley were at a funeral yesterday.

She was disgusted that a number of the congregation were wearing shorts.

Absolutely not.

Spotted two gents in shorts at todays service. One fella touching 40 had Jean shorts with a denim shirt - I’d say he was melted.

The other man in his 50s had a pair of togs on similar to the ones high flying financial types on tfk have worn into the office. He must lurch on here

A mate of ours couldn’t make it back for the funeral of a sister of a friend about 10 years ago. He turned up to the afters in a pair of shorts.

To this day, when we see him in shorts we say ‘sorry for your loss, hope he/she went peacefully’
