If Gillane sees the line in the Munster final it could turn into a very different game and season for limerick.
Since 2018 nearly everyone has regressed bar Waterford and limerick have improved significantly in that time.
I think unless there’s a lot of injuries the only team I see challenging limerick over the next 2/3 seasons are cork.
How quickly cork can build a team is the Q. In many ways the hammering they got in the final could be good for them. If they lost by 6 or 7 points they might stick together and try go again. Instead they are fully aware of the re building job needed a bit like us in 2017.
I met an ex Galway player and he said In 2018 if limerick kept going in the final it would have led to break up of that team quicker. They thought they weren’t far away and kept the squad together longer than they should have and wasted 2/3 seasons. Now they are miles off.
Tipp winning in 2019 was good short term for them but has absolutely fucked Tipp long term. Sheedy brought them to the well 2 years too many and sacrificed a couple of ai winning u21 teams to do it
In all fairness to Cody he has started again a couple of times and I think he is absolutely maximising what he has available to him. He hasn’t got much available coming through but anyone that has is put in.
Quaid has better targets to hit and executes the plan well. Also faces far fewer shots due to the defenders in front of him. He does what he’s told. Murphy is the best keeper of the past 20 years and is a far better shot stopper than quaid.
You’re looking at it backwards… In most sports the world over there’s only a handful of young players that make an end of year awards list, they need to be exceptional… in American sports most rookies have had 3 years of the college game … The game has moved on. We had a brief window where mainly students enjoyed the full advantages of modern s&c but that’s universal across all age profiles now.
The game is more important than any individual counties.
As @BruidheanChaorthainn has said every county bar Limerick (and maybe Waterford but they threw their hats at it for 2 years and are probably now back on par with where they were in 2017) has regressed alarmingly in the past 3 years.
Its embarrassing for the sport that one county has won 12 All Stars. Not even Dublin in their pomp came close to that in Football.
Era our turn in the sun will come again.
Limerick deserved the nominations but expected Pa to get one/ rest of the Cork team and management need to get their holes kicked,
Under age etc we’re fine heading in the right direction , wouldn’t panic yet but cork need to physically man up the games changed- time to catch up
