GAA All Star Wars

You are rewriting history here. Cluxton was kicking 40 yarders to the sideline to a moving Ciaran Whelan or Shane Ryan back as far as 2006. The short kick out to his corner backs came about 6 or 7 years later when teams like Kerry pulled out their full forward line to stop Cluxton’s long accurate kick outs. No player in modern times has fundamentally changed the way the game is played as much as Cluxton has. The fact he is a sour cunt should not deflect from this.

I agree that Jack or Con should win POTY. @cluaindiuic put me straight on this.

I agree with your point, but it says it all about goalies that getting one to actually kick a ball to his own teammate is seen as one of the most revolutionary changes ever seen in the game.

I was at a game in 2003 when he was sent off v Armagh for a silly kick . Probably cost Dublin the game .

The same day Declan Browne gave a Tour de France for Tipp v donegal

The one where he kicked Stevie from Killeavy?

This is true. Goalkeepers spent 120 years toe ending the ball as long and high as possible. Tactical innovation comes slowly in GAA circles

It was some Armagh player ok .

A complete load of bollocks. And he was doing nothing that other teams weren’t, the Dublin media train weighed in behind him when it became clear that he was a completely odd cunt.

He’s been the most consistent keeper of the last 15 years but on most occasions he’s heen 2nd or 3rd best during a calendar year behind the likes of Durcan, Beggan or one of the Mayo lads.

He’s always liable to make stupid mistakes like this.

Are you telling me the likes of Diarmuid Murphy, Paschal McConnell and Benny Tierney were pinging 40 metre kick outs to midfielders chests in 2006?
They were in their fucking holes.

The Dublin media train you claim cheerlead Cluxton is led by Data and Tomas O Se, Kevin McStay and Colm O Rourke. Their the guys that heap most praise on him. I have a feeling your mind is made up on this and I’m not going to change it but you are still very wrong. Finally if he is always liable to make a mistake like the above why did you have to go back 10 years to find it?

Dublin-based media team, most if it bollocks from The Sunday Game.

Benny Tierney retired in 2002 you gimp. Murphy only had to put the ball up in the air for Dara to grab it.

Masterson, Connaughton, Durcan and Beggan all had class kick outs.

John O’Leary was a great man for a short kickout to his corner back or full back

Durcan and Beggan were not around in 2006 you gimp. If we are throwing up mistakes I’ve got a doosie from Masterson you might remember?

Ppl bangin on about how Cluston has changed the game…

How has he changed it?

That’ll be news to Durcan since he played in the 2004 Ulster Final in Croke Park.

Heavyweight blow after heavyweight blow being thrown here between @croppy_boy and @binkybarnes, a thrilling contest. Some landing, some sliding past. Has either got a knock out in them?

He decided to kick the kick outs to his own team. It was revolutionary. Some goalies had to retire because of it.

Your right. I just watched him toe ending a load of kick outs up the middle (like your granny got it) and dropping a 45 into the net. Kieran Donaghy sends him a Christmas card every year too. Durcan was definitely better than Cluxton. At eating snack boxes.

How did Cluxton change the game?

By largely turning the kick out into a long pass to a moving target rather than a lorry up into the sky for the two sets of midfielders to compete under. Essentially changing the set piece from a random battle for possession into the first pass of an attack. He’s changed the GGA forever.

Its been akin to William Webb Ellis picking up the ball and running with it.

Ray Boyne was comparing the evolution of goalkeepers to now in essence being quarter backs
