GAA Betting 2013

Unlucky mate

Even if Clare win, I reckon Nash has POTY now. Great bet Fagan.

You sure mate? He conceded 3 goals alone in the first half to a fella from Ennis

I am, he didn’t leave your man run it at him though. Even Fitzhenry wouldn’t have saved them.

After that free I may be forced to revise my opinion.

He’s even conceding to Honan now Mac

I was wrong once before too…

Let’s remember this.

In fairness, apart from the 8 goals, you were bang on

The last one really killed the bet.
This weeks bets a bit contradictory:
i have Clare at 13-8 to win by more than 2
Nash first goalscorer at 7-1
Long standing one nash as player of year 7-1,
It would help if Clare would take the odd shot at Nash so he could make a save. If it is like the last day my only hope is that he scores about 2-2 from frees.
Just checked my PP account and discovered that the 7-1 was Nash for first goalscorer on his team. Sound.
Along with the big Clare win, I took on the TTK South Africa and the Limerick football bet so it has been a profitable weekend.

Hard to call POTY now. I’d have thought Collins would have won it if Clare won but Brian Murphy (how does he do it, I barely ever notice him yet his man never seems to feature) blotted him out completely. I’d suppose Kelly will get it.

Super game today, aided by some awful defending. As I said two weeks ago, Clare need to learn to defend without fouling. They were way better yet again but nearly let it slip for a second time.

I still think Davy has a few screws loose and I’ll never be a fan but fair play to him. His managerial record now speaks for itself. JBM is just a class act.

Nash won’t be winning anything this year after conceeding 5 goals in an All Ireland final, really enjoyed that last one Honan got after the thuggery of the drawn game

Gunners duly delivered on the -3. Never looked like getting the 16 though.

THE Gaelic Players’ Association (GPA) has revealed that over a third of the calls to its helpline are gambling-related.

Tyrone’s Cathal McCarron has become the latest high-profile inter-county player to struggle with a gambling problem and the GPA says the issue is second only to depression when players make use of its counselling service.

McCarron, who has been nominated for an All Star after he helped Tyrone to an All-Ireland semi-final appearance, is currently in London and the GPA insist structures are in place to support its members.

“We don’t comment on specific cases but we treat gambling as an issue in itself, it’s that serious,” said spokesman Sean Potts.

“We have issued guidelines to our members. For most people it’s enjoyable and fun but there are dangers there. There is a potential for addiction and match-fixing which are not always related but they can lead into each other.”

Since the helpline opened in 2010, they have received more than 100 calls from players with over 30 of them reporting gambling-related issues. After extending their helpline to a 24-hour service on a trial basis last Christmas, the GPA opted to retain their round-the-clock service.

“Elite athletes don’t have certain social norms and outlets that other people of their age might have. And gambling is so easily accessible and can be done in secret so it can be dangerous. The GAA are looking at what we are doing here with a view to applying it for the wider association,” said Potts.

"We have noticed a spike this year and when players like Niall McNamee and Alan O’Mara speak out, it makes it easier for others to talk about their problems.

"We can provide support to players in these situations in terms of proper diagnosis, aftercare and addiction counselling.

“We don’t deal with the ancillary problems. For example, we don’t pay any debt that may arise but we’re there to support in other ways and help with residential care if required. There is support there.”

Offaly star McNamee revealed his addiction last year, while Oisin McConville detailed his struggles in his book ‘The Gambler’.

100 calls in 3 years so I completely understand why they felt it necessary to expand the helpline to a 24-hours per day service.

Maybe 98 of them came in the one weekend and they made a snap decision?

I wouldn’t worry so much about Cathal McCarron’s gambling addiction but I would worry about his tendency to break into his friend’s house and commit a burglary.

Will Mickey Harte be giving yet another character witness statement?

No Totti will.

Bally gunner -2 evens and Ballyhale -2 10/11. A nice double on this, i think both will win by 5 or 6 points.
