The key with these things is to buy the dip.

I like Ballyea at 10/1 for the Clare championship. They are in the group of death alongside Clonlara, Inagh Kilnamona and SJDB, so you could wait and see if they get out of it, you’d probably get 5 or 6/1 still.

They still have the classic Ballyea recipe of Flanagan-Browne-Gudgie-Deasy-TK but they’ll have added a good few very useful pieces alongside them for 3 weeks time. TK is the best club hurler I’ve seen and he doesn’t look to be slowing down too much. Any team with him in it always has a punchers chance at a minimum. They were pretty good last year and they’ll had 3 county minors from last year in Eoin O’Connor, Evan Cleary and Dara Kennedy. Kennedy in particular is a huge add if he’s fit, I thought he was the best minor in the country last year. They’ll have a fair spine with the 5 older lads mentioned above + Kennedy + Dan Costelloe and the couple of footballers. Andy Fahy is back for year 2 of coaching them and he got a good tune out of them last year. Between Whitegate, Clare 20s and Ballyea it’s fairly clear that he’s a good coach and that’s more that can be said for a lot of teams in Clare.

If I were to make the case against them it would be that the goalie is pretty weak and that they’re probably too reliant on TK. Deasy, Mossy Gavin and Aaron Griffin can chip in on occasion but they need Tony’s 5+ points from play a game. That being said I’d rather be stacked in the backs+midfield than in the forwards, and it hasn’t really stopped Ballyea in the past. If you’re interested in backing a glass cannon, Cratloe at 33/1 look ok. Their older crew look to be having an Indian summer and they might have made a decent signing if rumours are true. Backs aren’t great though and they’re in a tough group.

First big bet of the 2026 club season is Loughmore 10/11 in the mid final v Holycross/Balycahil. 3pts.

Both teams are priced in the top two in the betting, it’s clear there was some big bets placed on Cross to win Dan Breen but I see Loughmore at about 4/7 in this game. Nenagh should arguably be ahead of them in the betting after giving Loughmore a right match in last year’s county final.

It’s only 9 months ago that Loughmore beat Cross in a county semi final. There will be almost identical teams line out this weekend. Loughmore were 1/2 for that game iirc and justified it with a relatively comfortable win.

This years form has seen Cross beat Drom AET before beating Thurles Sars in the mid semi. They won by 9 but Sars had a tonne of wides in that game.
Loughmore beat JKB relatively comfortably in their semi final. I was impressed by them in that game.

Neither team has really added to their team since that semi final so I can’t really see the 50/50 nature of the odds.

Other teams that might be added to this for a small accum:

Ballinamere 1/8 v Lusmagh
Abbeyside 1/10 v Ferrybank
Shinrone 2/7 v Tullamore
1pt accum with Loughmore.

Barry Nash is 33/1 for motm against Galway. Given how Galway play he should have a free role and be prominent raiding up the field. Byrnes is 18/1 and has been up there with hegarty as our best player, and again with Galway’s system he should be taking plenty of shots.

Draw game in Boherlahen with LM winning by 7 AET. Loughmore the better team overall but hit about 17 wides in normal time.

Happy enough to back them at that price.

Shinrone actually lost in the accum which was a surprise. Abbeyside and Ballinamere won well.

Kerry -4 against Mayo

Can see Kerry giving them a trimming and even if it’s close game would fancy Kerry to still finish 5-6 ahead

Would anybody rather be on mayo than Galway?

Obviously county loyalties aside.

Seems mad to me, I’d have Galway down as having twice as good a chance as Mayo.

Mayo look short to me anyway. I thought they’d be 3/1 or so.

Mike Casey 33/1 motm. If we win he will have had to have done a good job on Rabbitte you’d imagine. It’s a match up everyone will be watching and won’t go unnoticed

I like your logic but do man marking backs ever get it? Also it’s Joe rabbitte he’s marking, not prime Joe Canning.

If it’s a low-scoring game.

Unlikely if someone racks up a big tally from play.

It’s 33/1 for a reason alright. But a lot has been made of this battle in the build up

Fitzsimons got it on Clifford in 23 football final.

Mannion got it that day? Had Fitzsimons backed so I remember it well

Must have been one of the nominees maybe
