yeah but he got a seat in Aughrim didnt he, even if it was out in the open (as my reference to Limerick in Wexford alluded to)? Thats my point, as far as I know the terms under the season ticket guarantees a seat, and if you have the game in Portlaoise, then you cannot guarantee a seat to all season ticket holders.
In fairness to Kavanagh and the āpromiseā made to him, Iād have preferred to see what would actually have happened if it went to a replay. Its easy enough to promise a replay in Portlaoise when the chances of a draw was minuscule.
Not excusing any of this, just throwing it out there that it might be the practicalities of it is what has cost Portlaoise the game. Might be a case of amending the season ticket conditions.
yeah but there is seating. You buy a ticket in a seated area. Plus the old stand is the smallest one with seating, the other 2 would more than cover season ticket passes.
Ah now, you cant be offering replays and taking them away should it come to pass. Thereās bad practice being carried out here, promises being made under false pretences. The long and short of it is that O Moore Park could easily hold this game, it would mean the world to the town of Portlaoise, and to the people of Laois (SHOULD IT COME TO PASS THAT LAOIS BEAT WICKLOW). IT will mean nothing to Kilkenny people. Are we about promoting the game, or purely the bottom line?
If you come back to me and confirm that season tickets guarantees a seat, then we may as well just acknowledge that Dublin can never play outside Croke Park again. Jesus that is some joke if its the case.
See this is my issue, we cant just cast everything aside by using the phrase āthis is the GAAā. This is actually important. As Iāve said, this would be huge for Portlaoise, for the young people of Laois. Weāve played Dublin 10 times over the past 20 years or so, all in Croke Park. Iām sure I donāt need to tell a Wexford man the cost behind bringing a family to Croke Park for the day. We all thought weād never see Dublin out of Croke Park again, but now its being done, and yet theyāve somehow gone and made a fuck of it.
If its about season ticket holders, come out and say it. But all Iāve heard so far is āconcession ticketsā. Well fuck that. Maybe TSG is right, and the GAA is dead.
ah I was being flippant when I said that. As I said, I dont disagree, sure Iāve long been an advocate on here for Dublins first round game to be taken out of Croke Park. We played them enough of times in Croke Park and marginally failed on 3 occasions, and I fully believe if one of those games were in Fortress Wexford Park, we may have got over the line.
by the by, it would look awfully foolish if Wicklow win that game too by the way!
Well lets be honest, if Wicklow come to Portlaoise and beat them, then they really donāt deserve to be playing Dublin anyway. And remember, Antrim did that last yearā¦
But theyāre right to speak up now, no point saying it if they beat Wicklow. Something stinks here. Its so disheartening tbh.
yup, again, not disagreeing with you. If it is because of the season tickets, they should say it, and amend the conditions of it. There are plenty of people with season tickets who wouldnt mind either being on the open side terrace in O Moore Park, or behind the goal. There are also plenty who would bitch and moan at not having a seat, but its a minor inconvenience in the scheme of things.
Its not often youād say it, but I do feel for the County Board. Theyāve burst their holes developing the stadium, theyāre building a centre of excellence beside it, theyāre fundraising, researching (I believe Ferns is the model upon which the COE Buildings will be based), etc, and then they get this slap in the face from the boys down the road in the town centre. From listening to Kavanagh I suspect he knows whoās behind this and theyāre fuming about whats gone on.
Please join the GAA political dots for me. Is there someone at Leinster Council level planning a UachtarƔn CLG run and needs vote from Kilkenny County Board or something?
That is one suggestion. Thereās also the suggestion that someone who is in situ has a few favours to pay off. This would be the more likely in my modest opinion.
Is this sort of thing decided by a vote or is it just one personās decision? I heard something on the radio about each county having 2 votes and Laois being confident that it was in the bag only to find out that their votes had evaporated? Any more detail on this MBB?
I think itās a great idea bringing the best team in Ireland to a county that doesnāt play much football. You are bringing a part of the GAA that isnāt that common and you are hoping to plant a few seeds in the minds of the kids.
I donāt know what year it was but the football league had an experimental format. There was something like four divisions with the four different existing divisions all mixed up so as was in KKās group, Kerry were in the same division. I remember seeing KK play Kerry; donāt ask me the score and yeah it was probably on before a KK hurling game but I got to see it none the less. I always liked football back then, was better at it than hurling so this was like gold to me. It inspired me to stick at it and eventually represent my county at football.
And before Iām told ācool story broā well yeah it is pretty cool as seeing one of the great teams in the flesh was a great experience. Just like seeing Meath play in the game after the Leinster Final in '91 (@Piles_Hussain was there too), experiencing the site of the likes of Liam Hayes play at the highest level was something I would not normally see - whatās to say having Dublin v Laois* at Nowlan Park might not plant the footballing seed in the next generation of KK GAA enthusiasts.
For what itās worth both my auld boy and Pilesā said in unison ālets get the fuck out of hereā once the half time whistle was blown at the Meath/Wicklow game in '91
