Was speaking to a member of the Connacht panel earlier in the week and he said that they were meeting up for the first time this week - not a training session just a ‘meet up’.

Apparently the Leinster lads have been meeting for the last five weeks.

O’Mahoney apparently could not give a shit.

It’s a pity. The Railway Cup used to be a massive occassion. I don’t see why it still can’t be.

Absolutely fucking stupid time of the year to have it. If the GAA got their house in order and got the counties to have their club fixtures sorted, the club should be done before Christmas, and then have Inter-pro’s on Paddys Day. They are being played in fucking Fermoy tomorrow for fuck sake, with players all over the world or playing club they are a farce.
Chance for a bit of fancy gear is all they are now.

I saw the Leinster football squad on reservoirdubs last night and it’s not awfully strong but there’s a good mix of counties in it. Wexford have Masterson, Bradley and Banville involved and I think Pikeman said on the Wexford GAA thread that Forde has been added to it too - not sure Kilanerin will be happy about it. I can’t access reservoirdubs in work but other notable players included were Shane Ryan and Collie Moran, Johnny Doyle, Mark Ward, Caoimhin King, Joe Sheridan, Ross Munnelly, Gary Connaughton and I actually can’t remember anyone else. Val Andrew is manager and Jason Ryan was also involved in it and they have indeed been training for it over the past few weeks.

Last I heard Connacht were 1-7 to 0-2 up in the football. Anyone got any updates ?

Leinster won the hurling by 4 points.

Munster won both football and hurling against Ulster

from RTE.ie

HURLING:

Leinster had a four-point victory over Connacht at a rain-soaked Kiltoom in the M Donnelly Interprovincial Hurling Championships.

Richie Power found the net for Leinster from a free puck after 19 minutes while Joe Gantley had Connacht’s goal on 23 minutes as Connacht lead by 1-06 to 1-04 at half-time.

Four unanswered points at the start of the second half put Leinster in front and a goal from Eddie Cody with four minutes left sealed victory.

In the day’s other semi-final, Ulster pushed favourites Munsterall the way but the southern province ran out five-point winners by 2-14 to 1-12.

FOOTBALL:

Connacht were never behind as they deservedly beat Leinster by ten points at Kiltoom in the M Donnelly Interprovincial Football Championship.

The winners lead by 2-07 to 0-04 points at half-time as Mayo’s Andy Moran and Galway’s Padraic Joyce scored the goals for John O’Mahony’s men.

Three early frees in the second half from Joyce set Connacht on their way to the final as Leinster bowed out tamely in spite of the best efforts of Mossy Quinn and Ross Munnelly.

Munster also won their football clash against Ulster by 1-05 to 0-05 points. Cork’s Nicholas Murphy scored the decisive goal.

Good posts there lads, many thanks.
I note during the week Joe Kernan suggesting playing the finals on Paddy’s day (football at H.Q. and hurling in Thurles) in conjunction with club finals.
While followers of lesser clubs might want “their day” at H.Q. any club hurler would aspire to his club’s big day in Semple Stadium.
The GAA are ignoring the great sponsorship being provided by Martin Donnelly, because deep in their hearts they hope this once great competition will fold up.
Joe Kernan’s suggestion has a lot of merit, but now that Ulster are out, will it go as Prickey Brennan hopes into “Rooom/Bin 101”.
Fgra to D/B I’ve seen 4 (four) on a Connacht team in the early 60’s in Croke Park - Josie Murray, Tony Haydem, Packy McGarty and Cathal Flynn.

if you were to look back thirty/forty years ago a railway cup medal was only second to an all ireland medal…its a terrible shame it has gone this way…very poor turn out in fermoy today according to the radio

It is indeed truly a shame Puke and your comment is correct.
But the arrival of the TV age enabled us to “see” many of the spoken legends of other provinces display their skills and hence the Railway Cups lost their gloss/value.
I can remember 40k. plus at H.Q. in the early 60’s before TV (before ESB)
Memories eh…
Cocoa getting cold…

Romantic Ireland’s dead and gone, it with O Leary in the grave…

It must be great for Eddie Cody to be playing on the same team as the Kilkenny lads. Fair play to the Carlow man for getting a decisive goal for Leinster today. It’s very embarrassing to have lost the football so comfortably to Connacht.

damn right its a shame- it cuts me up everyday to think about how an interprovincial medal has been devalued down through the years

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Any updates from the football final ?

Great win for Leinster there. Not great becasue of the performance just cos it was Munster we were playing. Ronan Fallon and Eddie Brennan were class. Tommy Fitz should have been brought in earlier. Brendan Murtagh shouldn’have lasted near as long as he did - didn’t perform. Hannify and Coady were pretty poor in midfield too.

Cusack fouls most of his puckouts. Was happy to see him give away two points with crap short puckouts. They should ahve left Cummins on.

Munster led 1-8 to 0-5 at half time having played with a big wind and were completely outclassed in the second half. Switching Eddie Brennan to wing forward worked very well. He was unreal there and was even back to help out in defence towards the end.

Had no interest in the football so came home instead. Surely not the right time for the football final given most of the best players in the country are in Australia at the moment.

Just saw the coverage on the news there - awful. The cameraman stayed in the main stand so the view was crap rather than going over to the dedicated area above the terrace.

Rathnure are a very parochial crowd - I see John Conran called John O’Connor up for the final last night.
