GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

He was working with the Derry City academy I think.

He chap was with them.

I presume that’s a relation getting the cushy “Operations Manager” role? handy way to spread the expenses around

That was a disaster. One win in 14 games iirc. He took an ex Atletico Bilbao manager on as assistant, got two youths on loan from Celtic, probably through his friendship with Desmond but they didn’t get the results. As far as I’m aware, he applied for one or two manager roles in the league of Ireland, and got nowhere. He has been working as a coach with Derry City u-19’s who havn’t been doing that well at all. Brian McEniff claimed in an interview this week that he was trying to get a coaching role at some level with the FAI. On the GAA front, he was doing one-off and sometimes several coaching sessions with the likes of Galway and Down and probably a few club teams on top of media work and speaking engagements. I don’t think even another all-ireland win would rejuvenate his soccer management career. I think setting up a sports psychology and performance consultancy would probably be far more lucrative and successful.

So his full time earnings are sports coaching related and not like an engineer or something ? Must be hard for the family to get uprooted all the time to Celtic and then Colorado and maybe next some hole in the league of Ireland or the first division.

He’s a mansion built in the home place I think. Doubt the family moved anywhere tbh.

Yeah was it Laochra Gael or one of those and they had a few shots of the house. Huge place on a height overlooking the sea or a lake from what I remember

I watched this at 5 am this morning going through the races today

AFAIK, yes. Coaching and media work. I don’t think the family were in Glasgow or China, not sure about the U.S. The missus is a solicitor, but they’ve six kids or something wild for today’s age.

A solicitor and rearing six kids herself and running a house while Jim in China or America with a second division outfit

Nuclear level of silent treatment everytime he walks in the door.

I don’t see the problem in that kind of silent treatment from time to time tbh.

I was running with a lad last night. I’d say he must be pushing late 50s now, and his eldest is 19. Said they had 5 (five) kids under the age of 4 and a half at one stage, the final two were twins :grimacing:

Given his strong faith it’s hardly surprising that Ger Brennan is willing to take on some missionary work.

More an act of self flagellation.

He’s channelling Matty Hislop.

A very sound man Ger. He’s well got

He is that. Very little managerial experience though.

He’s managed against Laois at senior level iirc
