GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

Qualter Smith

Good news for Donegal. Maybe we’ll have a successor to Jim. Lacey won the county championship with Kilcoo, which with that squad and culture of winning, wasn’t exactly a behemoth of a task, but didn’t set the world alight in Ulster. I honestly don’t think he’d be a great appointment for Derry, as it’ll be his first intercounty job and Derry has talent deserving of a big name, but there aren’t many proven managers out of work, that would be willing to travel to Derry. Lacey spent some time on the sideline with Declan Bonner, an era of Donegal football the fans would love to forget.

Lacey was one of the best defenders in Ireland since the year 2000.

An absolute class act he was.

Twas the Laois blood in him

He was a rolls royce of a defender alright. His assist to Murphy’s goal in the all ireland final in 2012 was a thing of beauty. He was regarded to be a serious administrator in our fledgling centre of excellence before a bunch of meddling dead-wooders on the county board kept stifling him out of spite until he left. Thankfully they’ve been removed since.
