Is Galway a football or a hurling county?

What’s Cork?

The first thing that would come into my head for Galway is hurling.

same for me but they’ve won a football more recently than a hurling title tho’

Cork can claim Dual Status but for me it has always been hurling.

what about people from the border of two counties that conveniently support one in hurling and one in football? i remember talking to a lad from glin or glen that was in limerick but near kerry border…he told me he supported limerick in hurling but kerry in football as did most of his neighbours…

Galway big county so will seperate it up

North Galway. (Tuam and surrounding parishes) All football

Connemara. Again all football bar a small bit of hurling played in Moycullen

South Galway. Hurling

East 50/50.

Galway City (Used to be almost all hurling but a lot of football being played there now)

Don’t get me started on those clowns along the Limerick/Kerry border. Glin wouldn’t be too bad for it, but up around Abbeyfeale they wreck my head. Especially around 03/04 when Limerick played Kerry in two Munster finals. Met a lad on the way home from the 03 final in a pub in abbeyfeale and he was sneering at me about how kerry had given us a hiding (the same fella is from Limerick), then saw him the following year at the drawn game wearing a Kerry jersey, and then a week later at the replay wearing a Limerick jersey! He had to cheek to come up to me and say “I think “we” have a great chance today”. I told him to go fuck himself. Saw him then after the match with the Limerick jersey stuffed into the back pocket and a Kerry headband on.
I had to be restrained.

That’s a lot of football!

Is there anything in the flat, good land = hurling, hilly wild land = football theory?

e.g. East Limerick = Hurling, West Limerick = Football
East Cork = Hurling, West Cork = Football.

Kerry, bad land, all football, connemara the same, Tipp, Kilkenny good land all hurling…

not really…south tipp and the golden vale is football as is the great plains around Kildare and Meath…

Yeah you are probaly right even though the land in North Galway is good.

Think West Clare is mostly football too with hurling in the east

Kildare and Meath are too close to the pale so the hurling would have been crushed by the imperialists up there. Now stop picking holes in the theory!!

Most of the farmland around Tuam (home of Galway football) is lowlying and fertile anyway, Conamarra is obviously a different story

I hope so. Realistically he has yet to reach his peak and almost won the last match for Galway on his own, and would have done if he wasn’t instructed to put the last point he scored over the bar

there it is

so its not the ref, tip or the format this year then?

I didn’t make any complaints after the match whatsoever. The better team won. At the end of the day it was 1 boy against 14 men.

However thought he should have been let go for goal in the last free he got.

Anyway game over now. They’ll be favourites against Clare the next day and I expect them to sneak a win.

Line 'em up. Predictions

Best of Three

  1. Loughnane : will he or won’t he

  2. The Moustashios v the blahs

  3. Will ArtFoley be banned from AFR.

Bouldy Ger loves being on the telly; so if Galway enter Leinster in 09 he’ll stay on. If they don’t; its back to banner

The Moustastios, and instead of snubbing Davy like he did Justin, Dan the Sham with drop kick the midgy into Holy Cross.

No. His use as PV cannon fodder is more valuable than his finger pointing

Loughnane for Limerick next year (you heard it here first)

The Moustaciaos, i don’t think the general public are as fond of waterford as they once were

Fart Holey he got called before and there was a right kerfuffle. No I don’t think he will get banned.

I’d buy that. And Bouldy Ger hates Cregan too.
