North Tipp is a divisional championship, mickey mouse championship at this stage. Most county championships start in August. So you want county championships to start in September? Fellas have 6 months to go on the piss. Most clubs out by end of September so players have from October until June to enjoy themselves. Not a bad stretch.
Look its been done to death and Iâm sick of talking about it but the 2021/2022 Championshipâs where the Inter County Final was on August 22 and Club Final on February 12 was as close to perfect as you can get.
Any club player that cannot forego 3/4 months of dedication isnât really doing it right.
Lads like @BruidheanChaorthainn or @Cheasty donât seem to have ever experienced doing laps of the field on January the 10th for a game in April that could shape their season.
The split season is correct although it could be all played 2 weeks later as @peddlerscross
That was a covid year. Cant expect players to wait until September to start championship. County teams have an enhanced calender and 7 months of the year. More than enough.
August bank holiday would be fine for me.
I always enjoyed the early weeks of the season and usually would pack it in may time when there was actually a few social events on and weekends away.
Theyâll destroy the club game with this move and create an even bigger gap between supports and Clubs and inter county players and clubs.
A load of teams were out of the senior football championship before the end of April this year with no meaningful inter-county action until next January.
Tipperary were effectively out of the senior hurling championship by April 24th.
That is not a good system.
Here you go down on 2019 up on 2018 for Munster
This paragraph could not be more wrong
Just give it some time and youâll see.
Weâve already seen. Thereâs been 2 years of split seasons and the club game is thriving
There was a massive crowd in Thurles for the Tipp v Limerick round robin game that year (2019) which was a complete non-event. Pushing 40k.
Cork and Tipp were at a higher ebb then as well so I think their game drew a big crowd.
Edit - had a look at attendances this year and the Cork - Tipp attendance was actually healthy enough at 27k, although obviously the U20 final inflated that number.
Completely irrelevant when large swathes of people were stuck working at home and going to a game was the only thing you could do.
If Tipp had won last Sunday May 22nd they would have gone through so total rubbish. Leave Tipp in the championship until the end of June and it wouldnât make a difference. Simple fact Tipp are not good enough. Changing the calender wont change that.
Good article with Tommy Doyle Westmeath hurler in the 42. Very happy with the split season. Says Westmeath do not deserve to be in championship any longer. Players seem to be very happy with split season.
Whatever your views on how the calendar should be structured or the format of the Championship, what is dangerous is that weâre now in the realm of this being a constant topic of debate, with yearly tinkering. The GAA has thrown tradition out the window, and is exacerbating that decision by giving no permanence to what has come next.
Sure If he didnât want to play he just shouldnât play.
You canât ruin the whole association for a few club players.
Club gaa will end up like junior soccer. Nobody at the games with players moving from club to club.
Theyâll finish it for these crazy inter county round robin games.
Just move it back 2/3 weeks and everyone wins.
