Gaa split season, killing Meath football since 2011

You were caught out defending the defenceless.

They can’t play thanks to the shit season.

End of the dual player is nigh thanks to the zealots.

Split season head honcho cahair o Kane wants 200 million off the Irish government to build casement park. Where do these clowns come out off?

That’s a great idea by the GAA and the FRC

And if I’m not mistaken this was the same fella waxing lyrical about jp McManus and his ilk not paying his taxes in Ireland.

You literally couldn’t script it with these fellas.

There is very few dual players for the last 20 years. Kieran Shannon’s article has you rattled.

I don’t read anything by kieran Shannon.

I presume we were listening to the same Second Captains podcast and that’s not what he said at all. He said if the plans remain the same that is what would be required but generally came down on the side of the argument that the Casement redevelopment wasn’t necessary

He said at the very end he wants 200 million that the Irish government has a surplus of cash.

Clear as day.

Like all zealots he’s a selfish cunt. It suits me so everybody else should suck it up.

200 million for a Tin pot stadium that bizarrely won’t even have terraces after the puc disaster.

You’d actually wonder about fellas.

It’s an amateur game for goodness sake not the nfl.

And I just listened back he referenced the apple tax

There is a huge amount that play football. Maybe not at Senior level but a serious amount do.

Of the semi finalists - I’d say close to half the Inamona starting 15 are all playing football. Probably the same if not more for Cratloe.

Doubt the bridge or Feakle have a footballer between them

This is nothing new, there’s been 1 Senior double win in Wexford in my lifetime, St Annes in 2000, they played something like 8-10 successive weekends when provincial championships are included, remember it vividly as I had relations on the team. 13 started on both teams, this year their still Senior in both with about 10 starting on both teams

Only dinosaurs like Roy Curtis and Martin Brehony…

I think you’ve misrepresented Cahair’s position quite a bit there.

As far as I can see the Casement Park project is dead at this stage and he basically recognising that. An absolute clusterfuck from start to finish and the worst thing about it is that Antrim have been left without a proper county ground for over a decade and will be without one for the foreseeable future.

The stadium was revamped for the 1999 championship. Then it’s shut down in 2012 or 2013, I can’t remember exactly when. Why?

It’s the worst example ever of the GAA’s obsession with bricks and mortar. Ravenhill is 17k I think. That’s perfect for Ulster rugby. It gets crowds, it gets filled, people want to go there, it justifies itself. Windsor Park probably doesn’t justify itself as much and is in an area you wouldn’t really want to go into, but it has always been the established home of the IFA, is only 20k, and gets filled probably six or seven times a year. That’s far more justification than Casement Park could ever have.

There simply isn’t the case for a spaceship GAA stadium in Belfast on any level at all. It’s not a popular location, it’s in a soulless residential area, it’s badly geographically situated not just in Ireland but even in Ulster itself and outside of Down/Armagh/Derry/Tyrone no counties are suitable for neutral games there. Neutral games are declining anyway with the changing format. The Ulster final is now in early May. Antrim are shit. A white elephant stadium will NOT be a promotional vehicle for the GAA in Belfast.

A gigantic recipe for a gigantic white elephant. The only reason this has dragged on as a project is i) the idea that Ireland might host either a Rugby World Cup or a Euros - neither of which will happen outside Dublin at any rate, and ii) identity politics. “We need a big fuck off stadium we can’t justify because themmuns got two smaller stadiums they could justify.”

The amount of money already wasted on this project is a scandal, just think what it could have done for Antrim GAA if it had been ploughed into grass roots development. And the amount of money lost out on by having the existing Casement Park shut.

Upgrade Clones with proper seats and entrances, throw down some weedkiller on the existing Casement Park, open it again, and carry on.

You seem to be absolutely incandescent with rage over this whole issue. Great to see such passion for our national games

I’d say that’s a ‘lot’ to be fair

Especially if including Eire Og

Barefield, Kilmaley, Ballyea and Corofin would have a scatter of them too.

So are 83% of intercounty players as per the recent GPA survey in favour of the split season selfish? You know the people who put their lifes on hold for everyone’s entertainment.
