Home ground all Ireland semi finals would be amazing

It makes zero sense to have a group stage at the latter end of the championship.
Itā€™s a pure money grabbing effort and it reduces the chance for shocks

Not a hope of it happening

Yeah you need 10 subs that are good enough to start to top one of those groups. It is unnecessary and reduces competitiveness. It further diminishes a county like Mayo or Donegals chances of winning an All Ireland. On their day they can possibly beat Kerry or rattle Dublin but they will never beat them twice. Same goes for Tyrone. There are 5 or 6 teams possibly good enough to be in the super 8s at most. Kildare, Meath, Roscommon are just making up the numbers.

if they were a stand alone entity maybe. no fear of IRFU however

True. The private school boys know how to run a ship to be fair to them. The dockers and dustbin men in Munster canā€™t keep up

And every year thereā€™ll be a team whoā€™ll do well to reach a provincial final and then be cannon fodder in the Super 8ā€™s where theyā€™ll be almost certain to lose all three matches (Kildare and Meath etc).

As you say the system protects the big boys and makes it even harder for teams to break through. They donā€™t need one result to get to a semi final, they need at least two and maybe three.

Iā€™d love if for this year only they ditched the provincials and had a proper All-Ireland football championship. 32 teams (London in for Kilkenny). Put them all into the hat to fuck and draw away each round until you have the final 2. Simples.

Absolutely. The group stage is in to give counties more than one game. Giving counties that already have 2-3 wins a group is pointless

With the restricted crowds thereā€™ll be no reason that the Dubs canā€™t play away too.

Look at the Mayo - Kerry semi final replay the other year, a great occasion.

Far too many matches in Croke Park.

the IRFU would be better off financially with no club game id say

The problem is that Cork is in the shit so the whole of the GAA is in the shit. These are massive figures in Cork which HQ will have to deal with.

If nessecary Cork can play Kerry, Galway can play the winners of Mayo and Roscommon, Dublin can play the winners of Kildare and Meath and Donegal play Monaghan and Tyrone play Armagh with the winners meeting in the final. I donā€™t think weā€™d be losing too much from the championship if we just started there. And Iā€™m being generous to Cork, Meath, Armagh and Kildare there by including them

Ya but same as the IRFU thereā€™s no fear of Croke Park. The FAI were fucked before this ever started, I wouldnā€™t like to be a LOI club relying on a rescue package from them

Youā€™d imagine the current hurling structure is here to stay.

Players get 4 games.
Counties get 2 home games.
Provincial councils coining it in.

Theyā€™d never go for it but Iā€™d like to see one year trialled with the same system as now but an open draw for both groups.

No Munster or Leinster but just Group A and Group B.

Group A - Kilkenny, Cork, Tipp, Dublin, Clare.

Group B - Limerick, Galway, Wexford, Waterford and Westmeath/Carlow/AN Other

Thatā€™s basically the league.

The whole thing has been a cod since 2017.
The old system of Saturday night qualifiers needs to be brought back.

Agreed. But huge implications on any future infrastructure projects. The next hashtag Iā€™d say is Newbridge is going nowhere.

Back to the straight knockout,it would cut down on all the endless training for 2 games instead of 1 and the club player would benefit.

You treacherous bastard

I wouldnā€™t be in favour of dropping the provincial round robins. The hurling championship structure is as good as weā€™ve had at the moment, I canā€™t see it changing.

Football probably would be better if they just played the league as the championship.
