GAA's The Toughest Trade

Given the history of this, I doubt he’ll even get onto an ice rink.

if he wants to enjoy a long hurling career i should hope not, an irish lad having to do all he can to stay upright on ice would get mangled by some 6’5 17 year old roaster from Saskatchewan. I’ll be in at the canucks later and will get the word on the street.

Wexford hurler Lee Chin has been announced as the latest GAA player to take part in the AIB documentary series, The Toughest Trade.

Chin will swap places with Canadian ice-hockey star Alex Auld and join up with the Vancouver Canucks, while Auld has already arrived in Ireland to try his hand at hurling with Chin’s club Faythe Harriers.

12 years a professional ice-hockey goaltender and now a coach, Auld will spend a week fully immersing himself in the sport and culture before he plays a challenge game against St. Martin’s this Sunday at 2pm.

This will be no easy task as Auld won’t be used to balancing the demands of training, late night drill sessions and gym work with the added pressure of working for the Chin family business.

Last week Glenswilly’s Michael Murphy spent a week with Champion Cup quarter finalists Clermont Auvergne as part of the AIB documentary. His episode will also feature former Welsh winger Shane Williams who swapped the oval ball for the round ball earlier in January. Both athletes didn’t look out of place with their new teammates with Murphy being lauded for his speed, agility and catching skills while Williams made a huge contribution during his challenge game against Convoy GAA.

Mark Doyle, Head of Consumer Marketing for AIB said: “We initially came up with the concept of The Toughest Trade as we believe that GAA club players are among the toughest athletes in the world. Over in France Michael Murphy impressed his Clermont teammates with his kicking and catching skills and he had no problem lifting as much as the professionals in the gym.

“Now we’re really excited to see how Alex and Lee get on here and in Vancouver.”

This is AIB’s third season producing The Toughest Trade as part of its #TheToughest campaign. In 2016 the documentary featured Tipperary’s Brendan Maher who went Down Under to play cricket with the Adelaide Strikers while Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea travelled to the US to participate in an NFL combine.

Bleh

I suppose Seamus Hickey was ruled out fairly early in the selection process due to his inability to stay up in a field. Imagine what he would be like on ice…

Not a bit surprised.

Wha yuuu waaah.

Fuck the ice hockey, they could have thrown in Conor Mc, that fella with the long hair and some other chap and gone bobsledding instead.

All the cliche boxes ticked here

“The fact that the guys have to get up and go to work the day after a match and balance a career in a sport that requires as much training as when you’re playing professionally, plus a family. It’s a real balancing act,” he said.
“It is really unique.”

Interviewed on tv in the first intermission of hockey night in canada (the sunday game kinda) tonight during the canucks game. he was introduced as lee wexford, and was too polite to correct, bit of diddly idle music and all thrown in. The same week an outbreak of mumps has five canucks out.
